Moviedom

Have you watched any movies lately? I have a feeling my Cox Communications bill will be higher this summer. With TV shows in rerun, I often...

WHOA, time out for an earthquake. Pretty good shakin goin on. Checked the earthquake monitor, 1.8, centered in Rancho Cucamonga.

Now back to the regular scheduled program. ...turn to On Demand for a movie. So, I watched Quantam of Solace (007) and was VERY unimpressed. Daniel Craig is certainly nice to look at, but this movie had little, if any, plot. 007 just ran, jumped, hit, shot, fought, his way through the first part, then he did the same through the next part, followed by a short (especially for Bond, James Bond) tumble in the hay, then more running, hitting, bloodshed, without a good car chase. The movie starts with a car chase, but it was nothing to write home about. It just didn't make it and I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come.

Frost/Nixon is a frank look at the deconstruction of a man who truly believed he (as President of the USA) was above the law. Frank Langella was amazingly good. His mannerisms, his talk, his demeanor were right on. By the end of the movie, I could almost believe he was Richard Nixon. Michael Sheen was excellent as David Frost, the naive English game show/talk show host who was way out of his depth and yet pulled off one of the most memorable interviews in American television.

Rachel Getting Married was much more than that. It is a story of a family, marred by the younger daughter's addictions. The dynamics are well played out and are especially poignant for those who have/had a similar situation. Anne Hathaway was SO good, I truly believed she was an addict. Somehow the trials & tribulations of returning to the family fold for a wedding were shown in a supportive, yet very much damaged family story. The sisters fight, there is a father, step mother, mother & step father all with some enabling and disavowing views of what happened to Kim. It is an interesting and well acted movie.

My summer agenda is PT, Padres & movies, along with a few doctor visits sprinkled in for good measure. 3 in a row for the Padres, and they finished off a 16 inning game with some players making their first appearance as a Padre. Jake finally got enough run support & earned a win today. Next up is San Francisco.
