Super Bowl

THE SUPER BOWL on Sunday, February 1st. If some of you have forgotten since the last playoff game (the delay must be due to TV coverage), the Pittsburgh Steelers are playing against the Arizona Cardinals. The game is being played in Tampa Bay, Florida. The game will be broadcast on NBC (7/39 in San Diego), starting at 3 PM. Most Super Bowl parties will probably start around noon. Somebody, somewhere will be passed out and never see the game. Someone will be drawing squares on a sheet of paper and collecting money for the mandatory "pool".

But, here it is rarely about the game, unless the Chargers are playing. That has only happened once, in 1995. Then it was about the game for maybe 1 quarter. The SF 49ers whipped us up one side and down the other.

It is about the food. Guacamole (especially for RBRS) with tortilla chips, 9 layer dip, all sorts of chips, crackers, pretzels, chex mix (have you tried the dark chocolate?), popcorn and the main course is meat, burgers, hot dogs, steak, preferably grilled. There will be some salads, usually pasta. And, almost any kind of beer sold in San Diego! Of course, there will also be champagne & orange juice for the mimosa afficionados.

If you aren't going to a house party, the GasLamp area will be packed with people watching the game (at least for a while). Many will drink too much but hopefully those that do will have a sober, designated driver.

While this annual bash is going on, football widows realize that this is the last chance to get out there and shop til ya drop. Lots of bargains and the malls will be ready for you. Enjoy it. Football doesn't start again until September (regular season).
