Dinner

We tried the new restaurant, Marble Room, last night. It is where Moose's used to be. The decor is understated, but lovely. There is a nice bar set up on the left side of the room (as you enter). There are tables & chairs on the right. And, in the center are nice, large, semicircular booths.

I had arrived first and was welcomed by a hostess who was informative and friendly. We talked about the decor and the opening of the restaurant. She was looking forward to Restaurant Week (next week) & they had some fliers on the hostess station. I requested a booth and she suggested one in the back area so we could see "everything". Of course, we took a booth in the back to enhance our vision of the happenings.

This is a Tapas restaurant and we sought advice from our waiter, Ian. He suggested we eat in "waves", ordering a few choices at a time. We all ordered drinks which were served timely and made right!

Then we dove into the menu, discussing our orders. There were 3 of us and, as it turned out, we made some excellent choices. The creamed spinach was served hot, with a top crust of parmesan cheese. It was like a casserole and it was delicious. There was cold asparagus with a tasty lemony sauce. We also decided we needed some starch, so we ordered french fries, with parmesan, served hot and piled high. Plenty for the 3 of us. In fact each dish was enough for 3 people to share. The meat choice was lamb chops, 3 to an order! They were cooked perfect, tender, moist & yummy. There were several dipping sauces, one that I found to be wonderful with the fries. It was a white sauce, lemon/garlic flavors, not too strong.

We did not order dessert as our plan was to go to Chocolat Cremerie and have some gelato. So, we wandered off feeling sated, but still wanting that sweet we had planned on. At Chocolat, we ordered 2 small cups; chocolate/Grand Marnier & chocolate/hazelnut. Both very rich and delicious.

I would definitely recommend the Marble Room. Be careful in ordering as each tapas plate can easily be shared by 3. I am sure we will be returning and I have already told some folks about it. I think this is a good addition to our Gaslamp eateries.

Now what can they do with Encinitas unstable cliffs?

Make the cliffs fall, put up more warnings, fine beachgoers?
