Homelessness

The Pittsburgh Steelers are Super Bowl Champs. Congratulations. And it wasn't one of those lopsided blow-out games that happen often in the Super Bowl. Springsteen was certainly energized & made good choices on the songs he sang. All in all, not too bad. I am sorry that I did not win any pool money, as usual. Didn't even have one drop of alcohol, which is sacrilegious on Super Bowl Sunday!!! I started a new medication and did not want to take any chances on getting sick.

I really do wish that our local politicians/City Council/Mayor Sanders would get out and walk around the City in the evening or early (6 AM) morning. Saturday night was particularly bad. There were enough homeless on the post office side of E St. that my friend and I were forced to zig zag our way through the miasma. There must have been something going on at the library as the lights were on and a guard out front was keeping these homeless from their usual sleeping places. Also, just recently, 9th street between E & Broadway is becoming packed with people every night. There are even a few tents in the mix. The harbor area from the Marriott, through Seaport Village, at the Midway & the War Memorial across the lawn, all along the boardwalk, the homeless find places to sleep. It is a fine way to greet the cruise ship passengers/tourists.

With the current financial situation, I fear that more and more people will join the throngs of homeless. Our fair City attracts them in droves, likely due to our climate.

Where are all the "answer" people?? PLEASE do not commission a study. They take too long and cost too much money. There should be experts out there to make suggestions.

I know the current focus is on water & I agree that problem needs to be addressed. I have suggested for many months now that the City could save by cutting back on street cleaning & power washing the sidewalks. Is there some reason this seemingly simple suggestion is ignored?? I actually called several people in the City Administration a few days ago, because there were 2 men power washing the sidewalk on F St. in the pouring rain. That is the epitome of stupidity.

More to come.
