It is early morning (3 am) and my body did not want to sleep, at least for awhile. I have been trying to come up with a topic for today's blog and decided to just "go with the flow"!!
First on my list is City Councilman Kevin Faulconer. I have sent e-mails, blogs, made phone calls for quite some time before I finally got some response. Just recently I was able to meet with 2 of his staff to open a dialog with this Council office. I had received some follow-up information and was hopeful because I also received an actual letter from Mr. Faulconer.
Yesterday, I received an e-mail advising of Mr. Faulconer's State of the District speech which took place the night before. I was quite surprised that I was not on the e-mail list and, sorry to say I had not checked the City website for a few days. I have since learned that the meeting announcement was posted on Mr. Faulconer's website. I just plain missed it.
I had been critical of Mr. Faulconer's office for failure to respond to my e-mails (numerous topics). I held out hope when the 2 staffers agreed to meet with me. I did get a response to my questions about the meeting and that was, "I will add your e-mail to our media distribution list". I looked at the usual sources but was unable to find any figures regarding attendance. The speech is available in video and written format online. I will check that out later today.
I was walking home from Soleil @ K, restaurant at the Gaslamp Marriott on Sunday and noted what seemed to be an attempt to repair a sidewalk area. I think it was on 7th between Market & G, east side of street (pending verification). There is now a mound of blacktop(unsure of material). It is well above the level of the sidewalk and is anything but even.
Any person walking along there, especially those who need a cane or walker, would find it to be treacherous. It may be worse after the "repairs". I do not know who is responsible for this, but it should be fixed at no charge as it was not done right.
I would encourage all who can to go out to dinner on Thursday evening. It is an annual event for fundraising for HIV/AIDS wherein the participating restaurants donate proceeds from that evening. I will be dining at KousKous in Hillcrest. You can get further information at:
