Tis the season (Baseball, of course)

Well, the Angels beat the Padres in their 2 game exhibition, ending spring training. I was at the game here on Friday. On Saturday, I took the train to Anaheim, where the station is in the ballpark parking lot. Our seats were in the upper deck, right behind home plate, front row. Great seats for seeing the entire field.

A friend met me at the station, then we wandered around so I could check things out. I had not been to Anaheim Stadium since 1990, I think! I was impressed with the variety of food available. We had dinner at a local restaurant, so we did not buy anything at the stadium. I did not like the "cold, dank, dark area cascading around the lower level. Lots of food, exhibitions, photos, etc. The place I used to go to looked nothing like this new incarnation.

Elevators were inconvenient and far from the main entrance. We used the escalator. When we got to our section, we had to traverse down about 14 steps. It was not easy as the staricase is steep, and many steps were broken, cracked, and definitely in need of repair. The stadium announcer was still in pre-season mode as he made several errors and failed to announce changes in the personnel on the field. Then, those darn Angels beat my Padres for the second straight night. A lot of the Angels fans cheered for David Eckstein. Many voiced the opinion they wished he was still an Angel.

On Sunday my friend, her daughter and I all went out to brunch at El Torito, chosen for its proximity to the stadium and the fact that brunch included "free flowing" champagne. The food was quite good and we did manage to consume more than our share of champagne. My friend's daughter had not had champagne before. Now, she really likes it. So, I have managed to decrease the supply of champagne by introducing someone to the niceties of a champagne brunch!

OPENING DAY in San Diego is Monday. We start the season at home against those dreaded Dodgers. I just recently read an article about the fact that the Dodgers seem to be one dimensional, Manny Ramirez. If that proves to be the case, maybe we can start the season with some wins!
