Football & Food

No politics today! I am not happy with the way the baseball post season is going. The dreaded Dodgers swept the Cubs, the Phillies beat Milwaukee, while the American League continues to play. The Angels finally found some life, in Boston. Tampa Bay is fighting it out with Chicago White Sox.

The Chargers not only lost, but looked bad doing it. This team should be playing better. I am worried that they may have taken on the Padres personality!!! If so, it is going to be a long season.

Went to brunch yesterday, at the Fleetwood. They are opening at 9 AM on Sundays during football season. Had a choice of tables as it was a little early for the football crowd. The waiter, Ben, was professional and attentive. By 10:15, the place was hopping! Football fans galore and every seat at the bar was occupied. There are 6 big screen TVs and 1 VERY big screen TV. When the Chargers game started, they put the audio on to that game. There was a group of fans on the other side of the restaurant (from where I was seated) watching the Bears trounce the Lions in Detroit.

The brunch menu is just right, not too much, but a nice variety. My breakfast sandwich (eggs, bacon, cheese on a roll) was very good and served while it was still hot. My water glass was never empty, my coffee never got cold. The Mimosa was a little heavy on the OJ and light on champagne, but they are priced at $3.00 for brunch, so it seemed like a good idea to have 2!!!! The manager, Gavin was visible throughout the morning, checking on "things". The wait staff seemed to be getting food & drinks served up timely & efficiently. I had a discussion with Ben about their dinner menus and what goes on in the evening. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, they have entertainment, via DJ. He said they also had a Karaoke night, but I missed which night that is (not a Karaoke fan!). And I asked about my current pet peeve, they do not have "measured pour" on their wine. So, extra points & kudos to Fleetwood for bucking the current trend in San Diego restaurants.

Since I was early (before football games started) I chose a 4 top near a side window. I never got an "evil eye" for occupying space. I was not pressured to move on so they could seat others. It was a very comfortable, friendly place. You should give it a try. They are located at the southwest corner of 7th & J. I think you will like it. They fit in the casual section of restaurants in town, not hoity toity but not a beachside stand! I will be returning.

The radio station, 94.9, had a table set up with some half time giveaways. No obnoxious "cheerleading", just fill out a form & they draw the names. Somehow I got lucky (very rare) & won a T-shirt and a CD.
