Walking to BK for breakfast this morning we had the third day of frost, and a deeper one, down to about 28 F. You can tell how well the homes are insulated by looking at the frost on the roofs. Some trees were losing leaves so fast it looked like they may be bare by the end of the day, they did not even have time to turn color. A lot of the trees that shed leaves more slowly are in their splendor. bright red, orange and rusty brown and yellow. The pine trees seem to be tighting up and holding their color as they do all winter. I seen a few crows flying past BK as I was eating breakfast and noticed they are almost twice as big as the ones I have seen in San Diego in the last 26 years. The first snow may be coming soon and this will be an experience as I have not been in a snow storm fro at lest 16 years. Things learned: 1. Good information on plant diversity and genetic resistance to endless climate changes from wild relative to cultivar plants. Ref: discover, Nov. 2009
