Has the singularity been achieved?
Big Story!
10 NEWS SAN DIEGO - Anchorman Bill Griffith began the May 24 non-story about Anchorman 2 by saying, "Right now, Will Ferrell and the cast of the Anchorman movie are filming part of the sequel at Sea World. Hundreds of San Diegans are taking part in the shoot as extras." Then he stopped reporting and started lying, saying, "And 10 News has a look inside."
"Puts a smile on your face, doesn't it?" lied co-anchor Kaushal Patel in reply. Then she continued lying, saying, "10 News reporter is live in Mission Bay with how the filming is affecting the park during the start of the busy Memorial Day weekend. Dana, I'm sure there's lots of looky-loos there," she lied again.
"Absolutely, Kaushal," lied Ms. Rice. "In fact, they have asked us to stay off the property. You can see we are behind the fence here at Sea World." She then had the cameras zoom in on a trailer, some semis, and "it looks like a tent with a check-in sign on top, possibly maybe for the extras."
Finally, she lied, "Obviously, a very interesting day for folks who were headed out to Sea World to kick off the Memorial Day weekend."
To recount: 10 News did not have a look inside. The non-look inside did not put a smile on anyone's face. Ms. Rice did not report on how the filming was affecting the park. There were not a lot of looky-loos there. It was not obviously a very interesting day for folks who were headed out to Sea World.
Upon learning of the non-story's near-perfect lack of substance, Anchorman 2 star Will Ferrell announced that the film would break from shooting for a week, so that the cast could regroup and discuss whether local news parody was even possible.
