PINING FOR THE GLORY DAYS OF FLEET STREET - Much has been made of the effortless glamour and understated charm exhibited by the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their recent whirlwind tour of California. The happy couple visited a posh polo match in Santa Barbara, dined with Hollywood royalty in Los Angeles, even met with a cancer patient and toured skid row.
But what no one has reported on (until now) was the couple's clandestine trip south of the border to party in the infamous clubs of Tijuana's Avenida Revolucion. Traveling incognito as "Mr. and Mrs. Bill England," William and Kate sucked down alcoholic concoctions poured straight into their mouths by helpful compatriots, eventually getting so tight that Kate served as the platter for a young lady's body shot, and William had to be restrained by Mexican authorities for running through the streets clad only in a child's Spongebob Squarepants costume.
The British tabloid News of the World had a photographer trailing the royal couple, and was all set to publish the pix when the cell-phone scandal surrounding the paper forced its untimely demise. But just before media mogul Rupert Murdoch pulled the plug on the paper, an anonymous employee managed to email the full-page photo mock-ups to us here at SD on the QT.
