Management for the housing division continued to ask the city council for rental increases in the amount of $9 per month per year and the council happily gave it to them.
Now, in light of the fact that nine top managers have recently received pay raises as high as 24 percent, officials are sending representatives to speak to residents of the city's low-income housing units on Monday night because they plan to ask the council for yet another increase of about $9 per month, which the elderly and disabled cannot afford to pay.
Make no mistake. The bad economy is being paid for on the backs of the poor. Recently, Jerry Brown cut group homes for the disabled and adult-day care for the elderly, while doling out $65 million to educate the children of illegal immigrants. He also cut vision, dental, and psychiatric counseling for Medicare/Medi-cal recipients. At one time, a Medicare/Medi-cal card could be used at just about any medical or dental office in town. With continual cuts looming over the heads of doctors, the cards are fast becoming not worth the paper they are printed on.
No doubt Brown was so generous to the undeserving because Obama was slipping in the polls, as well he should be. Our country is going to hell in a hand-basket because he doesn't know anything about economics and is pouring our precious resources into green energy.
Promises of job training in low-income areas will do no good if there are no jobs available after training is completed. How is the poor and abled-bodied going to enter the middle class if the middle class is shrinking for the rest of us?
We are entering an era in which some experts, including top economists, predict our country will eventually go the way of Egypt. And still the brass on top just doesn't get it. Stroking the rich and well-connected isn't going to cut the mustard while the poor are fast on the verge of having nothing left to lose.
