Thank you so much for exposing us to your work, your life, even your wife. One time, I met you both and when I commented on her interesting hair color, she said that you had created it and it was a color, red, that was outside of nature. So cool. As is your work.
You wrap big things. Buildings. Bridges. Dreams. I only hope to dream as big as you much less produce something to represent it. I write. That's what I do. But earlier, I was a social diva for about five minutes due to a marriage within a well-known family in San Diego.
Soon after my marriage, I began to get beautiful invitations to elegant events in America's Finest City and I attended a few. Sabastian at The Meridian Salon found me and offered to do my hair for free whenever I wanted if I would tell people where I had it done and I was thrilled.
The uber-elegant invite to your event at the brand new Palladian downtown called for black-tie artsy. I decided to wear a tuxedo and my grandfather-in-law John Alessio escorted me as my husband, his grandson, had to work at Mister A's that night. He managed the namesake restaurant with that incredible city view. Bertrand Hug took it over after both Mister A and his wife passed away and it is now California chic and light-very different from the red velvet, mafia-esque look of yesteryear that it had when Mister A was at the helm.
Sabastian performed like a rock star. He pinned black spin curls into my big blond mass of hair (which I brought from Texas) and it looked tremendous. It was that hair style that prompted your wife to stop me and ask to see it up close. I knealt to tell her about it and our picture was taken. I asked her about the color of her sumptuous head of hair. That photo was taken by someone in the news and it appeared everywhere for a while.
I have posted that photo below and it still brings back good memories. I'm looking at it now and your wife looks beautiful. I sent you a copy to your New York address and you sent me an autographed picture of your work which has been boxed with my belongings since my house burned in '07.
I have missed seeing your work in the news. Maybe someone will continue the work inspired by your energy and incredible example. Wrap, wrap, wrap...
Again, I have so much respect for your work and can only dream of mine leaving such an imprint on humanity.
May you rest wrapped in peace. I am Cordially yours, SherryD
