Two Idiots Suing -- The Miss California Edition
"He's claiming discrimination (of course). He's also claiming to be color blind." Don't jump towards race, he's suing for discrimination BECAUSE he's color blind. He's claiming they're discriminating against people with disabilities, not because he's black.— September 2, 2009 11:01 a.m.
Bicyclists and Podiatrists
When the CM ride happens some of the riders are appointed as "corkers". They basically are the ones who get off their bikes, line up and block all traffic. I wish they'd just wear a t-shirt with " human buttplug" on it so the cops know which one to go for. I still can't understand why this is being tolerated by SDPD.— September 1, 2009 3:21 p.m.
Kissing Cousins (errr, mothers) and Interracial Dating
If it's only preference and it's all based on what you are or aren't attracted to (no underlying hate or dislike for the group specifically) I don't see why it should matter if one said they wouldn't date a Caucasian, African-American, Asian, Middle Easterner...on and on. However, I also believe why not give it a first date. You never know what you may learn about yourself or someone else and who knows, maybe you'd lose a preference if the person just rocked out to you.— September 1, 2009 9:21 a.m.
A Day in Traffic Court
"I wanted to explain to her, that for a joke to work, tacking an hour to the time isn't all that funny. She should tell people it would take 10 hours. Or, she could say "It'll take approximately three hours, 22 minutes and eight seconds." That might be humorous. But her answer...well, I was just confused by it all." -Cue "Curb Your Enthusiasm" theme song. Larry David, is this you?— September 1, 2009 9:07 a.m.
Movie Pet Peeves
Whew - good read, long read, but good read. I hear you on all of this stuff, loud and clear. I can still think a movie is good when they have a couple of these flaws but I still can't overlook them. I'll throw out just a few I can think of - -Juno - this will fall under your "Precious Kids" section. Ellen Page's character was just a bit too over the top for me with her wordplay and verbiage. Every time I'd bring this up to my friends, especially the gals, they'd all quickly interject with "well, I was just like that in high school too". We'd then start debating about that, since most of them I knew in high school and sure, a lot of them were a quick witted and funny but come on - line after line coming out of that girls mouth is shtick. -Transformers 2 - talk about special effects overload. Michael Bay went extreme overboard with this one, ruining something that could have been a summer blockbuster. "Overload" is another good one. Sometimes too much is being crammed into something, leaving a lot of things unanswered. I don't need an answer to everything and I can roll with a lot, but when you try to get so intense about everything your throwing at me, I want answers. I recently saw Rocky V for the first time. The fight scenes in that were pretty realistic. Turns out they were real. The directors had to keep telling Stone to take it easy because he was taking hits that were leaving some heavy duty physical marks on his face. Although, with a mug like that there really isn't much of a difference, eh? I know the old Rocky fight scenes don't look so hot, but that was 20 something plus years ago too, right? Star Wars is a series that has always blown my mind with how good everything in it still looks. I applaud you Star Wars nerd fans, you're justified and keep on keeping on. Copland - Another Stone flick. This one I just can't get with. Stallone's character is the Sheriff of some Jersey town (I think) and he's just such a sad freakin sap. I mean, just waaaaay too over the top. I like when they don't make the cop character a total prick or whatever it is that can fall under movie stereotypical. However, you can't just go to the extreme opposite of that and expect it to be any better. He literally was a real life Eeyore (Winnie The Pooh). I think Eeyore maybe even was a bit more less sad sackish this Sly's character in this one.— August 5, 2009 8:24 a.m.
Facebook Requests and Answering Machine Messages
Email and texting are the best routes for me too. My friends always get pissed when I don't pick up my phone, but when I'm driving or doing something, I just figure I'll wait for the message to see what's going on. I'd rather text then talk though, and that doesn't fly with everyone. Email is the easiest form of communication and it doesn't take much time out of ones day to respond, especially when a majority of people's work forces them to be at a computer most the day. I hate putting a lot of effort into an email though and getting the short response of "too busy" though. I feel like reading and responding to email takes 2 minutes tops, and that would be a lengthy response. Nobody is ever going to be happy with how people communicate. I wonder if people got upset back in the day when someone didn't respond to a smoke signals, or decided writing that little letter to put in the pigeons mouth just wasn't worth it.— July 31, 2009 1:56 p.m.
Octomom Nadya Suleman Stopped
"The fact that she was on welfare, and all this other stuff...I really think the show won't fly or make money." - I'd imagine this would suck more people in, for a short time being at least. It would be like Jerry Springer. All the hype for a while, then slowly taper off. If it does air, it will end up getting press on every station, even though most will be negative. So many people will end up watching, at least for season 1, it just seems typical for the masses, especially when it's going to be on the cover of every magazine, TMZ, Nancy Grace (minimum 3 week discussion), The View and so on.... John and Kate Plus the 8 scored the highest rating ever for TLC when they got launched into the tabloids. They'll never be able to keep those numbers, but they'll now always be a few million over what they originally were picking up, before the tabloids and everyone else starting covering what was going on.— July 31, 2009 9:02 a.m.
Another John Bobbitt?
"Feed him, F--k him, and leave him alone" - Dr. Laura, is that you? That's just plain sad, and a cop out. It's not just up to the woman to give effort, ignoring all emotion and becoming June Cleaver. It doesn't make one a feminist, just human. I'm tired of wacked out excuses as to why people can't just be. The best part of the Bobbitt bit was he did "Frankenpenis". That will never cease to get a chuckle out of me. I doubt clothes on the floor or dishes in the sink would drive a woman to make a man want to leave. Sure, it seems that's the go to excuse for any man, to grasp at whatever small things they can conjure up at the time, but at the base of it all there is usually just another woman coming into play. Both sides should just be able to be honest with each other. Then maybe nobodies junk would end up at the corner of 15th and Market Street on a mini grill.— July 31, 2009 8:39 a.m.
Octomom Nadya Suleman Stopped
$250,000, 8 kids, 3 years...that would come to about $10,500 a year for each kid. It's good to see a judge didn't have a head up their azz at the time of making this call. Those kids wouldn't see a penny if Suleman was in control. I recall that there was talk of a possible "Bachelorette" type show involving Octo. However I only think it was an offer, like the porn. Eggghhhhhhhhh....*shiver* Is her doctor under any type of investigation yet?— July 30, 2009 8:05 a.m.
Ticks-ident
"Be informed before you comment!!!" - Ah, so it's a "me, me, me" world. I get it. Once you're diagnosed with something horrendous maybe that's the only road to take, can't judge. Well, best of luck to you and getting the word out there. Hopefully you registered that there was no attack on you more so then just a "take a bit of time and think about what you're saying before you speak". But, with something so huge running your life, I guess it can be hard to do that when you're passionate about the subject. I'm not speaking for me, but choosing words more wisely, and less spazzmatic, may draw more of a crowd in.— July 16, 2009 4:17 p.m.
