Staying awake behind the wheel
My office is in Irvine. I work from home part time and up there a couple days a week. When I first started, I was up there 4 days a week. Drink lots of water - not to keep yourself "in need to go" mode, but because it keeps your energy levels up. Also, a snack on the road is really helpful - but make it small. Nothing like eating a huge lunch (going big on a catered meal at the office is a killer) then trying to drive for 1.5 hours. Trail mix. Dried fruit. Small snacks over time. Good luck.— May 29, 2013 10:26 a.m.
Study finds unfair, unsafe working conditions for San Diego taxi drivers
There was a house in Lemon Grove that was a kind of flop house for cabbies. Most of the guys that lived there seemed to be from northern African countries. There were always a few yellow cabs parked on the street and in the garage. I always wondered if the guy that owned the cabs had set up the house for his imported workers. - Joe— May 23, 2013 7:52 p.m.
Dear A Clockwork Orange: let The Great Gatsby be your guide to the wonderful world of merchandising!
They have some of the props from the Milk Bar, a bunch of cool stuff from 2001 and Dr. Strangelove and a huge wall of foreign movie posters. You gotta go.— May 17, 2013 5:26 p.m.

Have you been to the Stanley Kubrick exhibit at LACMA? Amazing collection - and the people watching was epic. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/may/1…— May 16, 2013 11:43 a.m.

Point Loma Sprouts fires longtime employee for alleged theft
Oh man - I used to shop there all the time - Ian was always there with a huge smile to help bag the food and offer help to the car. Super nice guy. I really hope that this turns around in his favor.— May 9, 2013 6:29 a.m.

Strange Goodbye
I've been out of the writing game for a long time RF. It was good to get the last chapter of the story of the 52 down in black and white. On to new things. 2011 is almost over. Good riddance. - Joe— December 29, 2011 11:46 a.m.
