Oceanside’s fountain, turned back on, comes into view
Super happy this fence is down.— April 11, 2017 3:57 p.m.
Second thoughts about Hillcrest 111 at Seventh and Robinson
Haha! Paranoia much? Do you make a new aluminum foil hat everyday, or just reuse the same one? I wish I had gotten into development, but sadly I pursued a career in education (where I get to indoctrinate young minds with my crazy egalitarian ideals). Have fun at the next Roswell convention...— April 11, 2017 3:44 p.m.
Second thoughts about Hillcrest 111 at Seventh and Robinson
They going the way of the passenger pigeon because they're mostly made up of wealthy white seniors, and time doesn't stop for anyone, no matter the socio-economic privilege. Thankfully a new generation of community leaders will diversify and adopt more sustainable planning methods for better social, economic, and environmental justice.— April 8, 2017 9:50 a.m.
Second thoughts about Hillcrest 111 at Seventh and Robinson
Cassander, I do not work in real estate nor development, but your assumption only shows your blind ignorance to what has escalated into a wide spread public housing crisis. Teachers, firefighters, policemen, waiters, veterans, and nearly every demographic is suffering from the obstructionism of community planning groups. CPG's throw up blockades to keep "others" (low income folks, minorities) out under the guise of "community character." It is thinly veiled racism and classism, which you are contributing to, Cassander.— April 8, 2017 9:48 a.m.
Mission Valley planners scorn soccer end-run-around group
Thanks for the advice, but we San Diegans will seek out more informed opinions...— April 8, 2017 9:38 a.m.
Second thoughts about Hillcrest 111 at Seventh and Robinson
What the author of this article conveniently neglects to mention, is the 70+ foot AT&T building right across the street. Or the twin 14 story towers three blocks south. This building is not out of character in the community. The rampant NIMBY-ism from Tom and the loud minority in Hillcrest are keeping working class San Diegans out in order to further segregate the haves and have nots. Sad. Thankfully, their role is only ADVISORY, and the affordable housing ordinance should protect this project from major delay.— April 6, 2017 11:31 a.m.
St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox church versus SOHO
I do wish the church would compromise on moving the homes instead of demolition, as long as there is a willing community partner who will cover the costs.— April 5, 2017 3:06 p.m.
It was a quiet cul-de-sac in Sorrento Valley...
Boo-hoo. Should have researched before purchasing. I hope these homes get built, by right.— March 23, 2017 10:12 a.m.
Residential puts squeeze on Linda Vista retail/industrial
It appears from the image provided that most of the height is pushed back against the freeway, furthest away from the community, which is reasonable and fair. Once again, "community members" (prop 13 benefiting homeowners/NIMBYS) are setting up preemptive road blocks to needed housing for middle class San Diegans for their own gain (escalating housing prices to pocket profits for themselves). I hope their council member and the city will ignore these self serving and exclusionary positions, and move forward with a progressive and balanced approach to address San Diego's every growing housing crisis by increasing the housing stock near mass transit. And thanks, again, to the Reader staff for providing another pro-NIMBY article. Those of us struggling to keep up with increasing rents and housing costs can't thank you enough for making our lives worse!— March 14, 2017 2:06 p.m.
Balboa Avenue trolley-stop talk
Funny how the article calls out sandag/city planners for not addressing the last mile challenge... right after listing how sandag/city plans on addressing it: *While the San Diego Association of Governments (Sandag) and city representatives were thinking more about amenities for the station — **electric car chargers and bike lockers** — community members spoke more about the big picture: how both neighborhoods could get to the station and how trolley riders could reach their destinations after they got to the station.* Electric car chargers and bike lockers are part of the solution. Ride sharing electric cars (Zip Car) need charging stations, and bicyclists need lockers. Both address the last mile challenge. The article also mentions bus lines, which are prevalent in the area.— February 6, 2017 1:48 p.m.
