Twelve Reasons to Support Arizona's Illegal Immigration Law
The following is a continuation of the list of Escondido's most wanted: 13. "Unknown" hispanic male -- Shot Maria Montoya in parking lot of 725 Fig Street in Escondido on June 26, 2008. 14. "Unknown" white/hispanic male -- Wanted for kidnapping a 10-year-old girl from estfield Shopping Mall. She scared him off by screaming and yelling. 15. "Unknown" black male -- Considered armed and dangerous for robbing five robberies in Escondido. Pointed a knife at the clerk. 16. "Unknown" hispanic male -- Wanted for sexual assault on 5/08/02. 17. "Unknown" white male for sexual assault on 1/26/02. 18. "Unknown" white male for attempted sexual assault on3/10/02. 19. Alberto Gonzalez Alonzo -- Wanted for homw invasion robbery and ateempted murder onSeptember 1, 1996. He is a documented "Carnales" street gang member. 20. Angel Soto Torres -- armed and dangerous, wanted for murder on 6-7-03. 21. Hector Mendieta -- armed and dangerous, wanted for stabbing that resulted in death. 22. Angel Jimenez Mora -- armed and extremely dangerous, wanted in connection for murder of 5-year-old Richard Cardenasthat occured on June 8, 1991 in Escondido. The connection is that if we get illegals out of here, we will no longer provide a safe haven for criminals to go to after they have committed a serious crime. We will stop them from breeding and inflicitng more gang members on our country. According to a NCT article of a few years ago, the gang members tend to be first generation Mexican Americans. If you tell me their parents are legal, then I'm all for getting them deported too. My daughter is Spanish/Native American and my son is Portugese. They are both dark in complexion and could be asked for their I.D. in Arizona. Since they aren't criminals, they are all for it and so are they. People who have a right to be here have nothing to fear.— May 12, 2010 5:57 p.m.
Twelve Reasons to Support Arizona's Illegal Immigration Law
RE Shizzyfin's comment #6 is a damn good suggestion. I'm all for it. In fact, because of the prejudice I'm subjected to because I bring my two pit bulls to Mayflower dog park , I was going to suggest to the director of animal services that instead of banning pit bulls, there be a requirement that pit bull owners must get their dogs temperament tested at their own expense and wear orange tags to show that they are reasonably "safe" dogs. I'd be first in line to get a tag such as this. People seem to overlook the fact that many law enforcement officers are in fact hispanic. One was on the news to say that the law was needed. Is he a racist? The officer who posted some of the criminals listed above was named "Ramirez." Is he a racist for posting them? The Web site didn't list where these people were born. If you've spent any time in Escondido, you already know.— May 12, 2010 5:31 p.m.
Underachievers and Free Lunch
I agree with you, Refried, 100 percent. I don't blame the Mexicans whose corrupt government leaves them desperate for this at all. If free benefits were being given to fat American women in Mexico, I'd be down there in a flash. I am angry at the federal government for not watching out for America's interests. I've been writing on this issue since 1984. When Pedro comes to my back door, I feed him. I give him money because this h.s. isn't his fault. Just because their government gives them a bad deal in Mexico, doesn't give them the right to come up here and take what's ours, then bully us with words like "racism." Bueevy: Kids may need to eat, that doesn't mean I have to pay for it. They're not my kids. I had my own to feed. Why are you not pointing this out to the Mexican government? Why are these people our problem and why is it America's job to take care of them? Btw, from 1984-1986, I was married to a realtor from Oaxaca, the place where most of the illegals are from. He had made a very good living here and to my knowledge has never lifted a finger to help any of them, even when I asked him to. Why aren't these illegal immigration activists bitching at him? Because he doesn't give a rat's rear end about any of them. He's looking to take care of himself. They are taking advantage of the good hearts of the American people because in this "anything goes society," we can't distinguish right from wrong; we are incapable of using their common sense. We are so full of white guilt and political correctness, we can't stick up for ourselves anymore and our whole country is going to hell over it.— May 12, 2010 5:18 p.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
russl: You and anyone else can report harrassing messages all you want to admin (believe me I have). Unless the Reader's ass stands to get sued for libel, they don't care.— April 14, 2010 6:17 p.m.
Letters
Well said, Refried. All this goes to show what a poor businessman a journalist can be. Mr. H. would rather keep Cuddlefish on the site to support her freedom of speech rather than support the people who care about the Reader. I, for one, have drastically reduced my presence on this site, largely because of her "crap." For anyone to think that letting a manic-depressive run wild on the site in the name of free speech is ludicrous. I'd take Pistol Pete over her any day and he once called me a f*****' K. You go, Refried.— April 13, 2010 9:34 p.m.
A Pit Bull's Point of View
Thanks Nan. I just came home from his house and the doctor wants to perform a fifth surgery. He said no, he's had it, so it's only matter of time. Anti--I hope this piece helps. I would throw a fit if my kids got pit bulls around my grandkids (if I had any). It is such a bad idea. No kid deserves to have his mother risk his life. The problem is that the public doesn't seem to understand that there is different types of aggression. If a dog is aggressive to other dogs, that doesn't mean his aggressive with people. When these dogs attack kids, I thinks it's for the reasons cited above. I don't think its out of viciousness per se, it's more prey driven. Two pit bulls are too strong and overpowering for kids. When my son gets back from his honeymoon, I'll let him borrow Gus to walk, but I don't want him around my stepgrandson. He's the type of kid with asthma and peanut allergies and I just don't think he could take it. I worked with over 500 pit bulls and studied dog behavior for years before I felt confident enough to bring one home. I think that the county should issue orange dog tags (at the owner's expense)to show the public which dogs have been temperament tested by professionals and have found to be of good temperament. That way, the color wouldn't drain out of the public's faces when we go to the dog park with two pit bulls. They'd have a bit of assurance that the dogs are okay.— April 9, 2010 8:59 p.m.
Spare Me
I know what you mean about the jobs in L.A., but the rents were higher too. I could work full-time just by working as a temp, but none of us young girls could afford to live on $5.00 an hour. We left the clerical jobs to the gay guys and got the older men to pay our rent. I have found that writing brings me no joy. I prefer to work with dogs. One thing I hate is when a storyline like "Twilight" gets popular. They have to beat it to death. I am 51 and Jay is about my age. He is American Indian, on his mother's side. He and I had lunch at Marie Callendar's a long time ago (the 1990s). I was in Ms. Grant's neck of the woods today. Lavidicus is now my dog and he may be a canine ambassador for SD Humane Society. You sound so discouraged, Refried. I can only suggest you find your joy, wherever it may lead you. It may not be in writing. Maybe you'll prefer to stick with it, but if you can't take it to where you want to go, find joy somewhere else and lower your expectations about your writing. It's less painful.— April 9, 2010 8:41 p.m.
It all started with David Westerfield
Chilling video. The sad thing is, people thin that these murdererscommit these acts because of their illness, not because of the meds. Without revealing too much personal information, I'll confirm that this stuff can make you nuts.— January 4, 2010 9:21 p.m.
Top 10 Movies of 2009
I was pleasantly surprised by "Whatever Works." I figured it would stink like so many others, but I found it entertaining. I'll see the movies on your list. I find most movies so boring, I get half way through them then give up or fall asleep in the theater.— January 4, 2010 5:34 p.m.
