Despite the widespread cases of tinnitus, it is only serious enough to impair the daily functions of 5 percent of Americans. It does not mean that tinnitus is something to be taken lightly, but don't get too worried. There are some tips and advice listed below that may lend you a helping hand.
If your physician says there is nothing that can be done for your tinnitus, get a second opinion. Some doctors can't provide a proper treatment because they do not have the education about the topic; others do know about tinnitus, and they can help you.
Get a white-noise machine. While you obviously can't carry this around with you wherever you go, using it when you can, will help reduce the amount of ringing that you hear. One ideal time to use the machine is when you are sleeping; it can have the added benefit of canceling out other noises in your home that might wake you up.
To get a restful night's sleep even with tinnitus, work out before bedtime. Exercise will tire your body out, and will leave you so exhausted that you'll be able to drift off to sleep peacefully without focusing on your tinnitus. Taking a hot bath after your workout can make falling asleep even easier.
