Money for Sweetwater Union HS District Board Members Under Microscope

Something that is germane to the discussion about many Sweetwater issues is how much of their business really needs to be conducted behind closed doors--away from public view. On the California First Amendment Coalition site there is an editorial from the Los Angeles Times about supervisors and excessive closed session meetings. As I recall, Sweetwater's board agenda for the last closed session meeting does not even refer to the Vega report. How is the public to know what part of the public's business is being conducted?

Visduh, That's a very optimistic statement you have written--that out of the South Bay school district turbulence some governance reform will come. I do know Southwestern College is likely to go forward with campaign donation limits. One worries, however, that donations will simply take a new form.

D Garcia, thank you for your comments. I'm sure readers will find your comments contribute to their understanding of GCR. Could you clarify your initial comment that there are "incorrect facts"? I have read your post carefully and yet do not find that you point to a single incorrect fact. I would also like to point out to you that the fact that GCR was suspended was in the Union Tribune on January 5 and KPBS reported on it prior to that. Your statement that "you printed it before it happened" is factually incorrect. Susan

Hi Thin Walter, You have quite a story to tell...it would be good for people to be able to read that UT editorial and some of the other coverage from that time in it's entirety. You must have been so surprised to see it all circle back. A lot of people contributed to broadening this story and making it a fuller picture, still it seems like we have only scratched the surface.

Sweetwater is having an audit--unfortunately I don't believe they are looking at the education foundation or the other non-profit closely associated with the school.
