Past and present officials from three South Bay school districts arraigned

Yikes, thanks all for reminding me to add Dominguez's name. He is one of those crossover people who worked at Sweetwater but sat on Southwestern's board--I had taken him off one list and meant to add him to another. As for extortion, I did say only a partial list, but thank you for the useful reminders.

Sweetwater board votes to cut occupational programs

Mr. Brickley, point well taken. The district spent $4,740,000 for a 3 year lease for mobile devices for incoming 7th graders. As one parent pointed out, the theft recovery program costs $447,500 but the district reports only 50 iPads lost. As he pointed out--50 X $500 --that is not a good investment. At the meeting one person made the wise suggestion to just wait a month to fund iPad program so that the ROP could continue to be funded now.

Latest plans for ill-fated L Street land deal

"Those affluent and elitist types who run that district do NOT want any investigations, indictments, or lawsuits by parents. And we can, in part, thank the Sweetwater and Southwestern boards for that. Too bad that you only get religion and put in smoke alarms when you see your neighbor's house burn down. Too bad that "honest" people are kept honest only when they fear going to jail. " Visduh, I love your optimism, which I understand is underscored with realism. Perhaps the flips side of cynics is hope...at any rate, the South Bay needs whatever a person wants to call it--a wakeup call, a cleansing breath, a clean sweep...

Funny how a story like this will cause people to bring forward similar stories. Thanks to those on and offline; I will look for a frame to incorporate your experiences. Meanwhile L Street, as many have observed, is important. I believe there is a lot more to say and hope to put it together soon.

Sweetwater school district cuts program and teachers

Every time I attend a Sweetwater board meeting, I come away with many possible things to write about. The students spoke so well on their own behalf -- any one would have been impressed--any one listening would want to see this program go forward.

Sweetwater Union High School District & Realty Co.

Not every school district is as unfortunate and as fortunate as Sweetwater. I don't need to explain why the district is unfortunate--but the district is actually extraordinarily fortunate to have so many astute people investigating and following its actions, as well as so many people who do the basic and important work of the district. The L Street transaction is by no means simple--but stripped down to its simplest components -- it is revealing.
