anniej, I believe you are a long-time CV resident too. If so, you will remember the slow meandering sage-scented ride out to the lakes. I remember that a kid could safely bicycle out to the lakes from western CV... Anyway, some parts of Olympic Parkway do have lovely landscaping.

eastlaker, Your raise very good questions as usual. I think it's time to tackle the city's Mello-Roos. I got their report once, but it was very generic. I'm curious, for example, if like Sweetwater, one or more of the Mello Roos districts is almost done paying. Where will the money come from to maintain the district at the standard that people bought into?

Eastlake Action Group, I did hear your group speak about the park but didn't have room to include the material--or the EIR, or the CEQA noticing vs the city's noticing distance. So the park got increased parking and Lennar's project got a bump up in density. Did the actual park get reduced in size? When I was out there trying to understand the lay of the land it was under construction.

bvav, The change in the cellular contract is on the June agenda, 10 item E49. It is the superintendent's recommendation and voted through by the whole board. The ill-kept campus you describe, Eastlake High, sounds awful. But the class sizes are the worst part. That is what most directly influences student learning.

New blood for Sweetwater district?

For those who don't know, Jim Cartmill and Bertha Lopez, had petitioned the court to be go back into their Sweetwater seats. As seen in the tweet below from Star News, early this morning the judge denied the legal appeal. Apparently, Chad Peace, son to Steve Peace, is defending them and taking this to the state on appeal. Cartmill and Lopez have filed as candidates for the November Sweetwater election. New blood for Sweetwater district?

Some might argue that the district does not need to declare this surplus property becaise of the non-profit holding the lease. However, the district has established legal PRECEDENT by establishing a 7-11 committee and holding surplus property meetings on Third Avenue. As has been pointed out in previous articles, the committee was not properly representative of the district (as California code mandates) and the members were not vetted. The members' 700 forms were filed after a decision had been reached, and superintendent Brand reviewed them subsequent to the decision. Did any one on the committee stand to gain anything by having entitled property put up for sale? A discussion of Fund 40 is pending. That is the fund that is paying for the consultants. Why are consultants being paid for entitling property for high-density development when the land has not yet been declared surplus and the public has not been consulted on their wishes?

Democracy costs, even in Chula Vista

Sjtorres, you might want to read this article and read up on charter cities and municipal elections. As the article reports, the CV charter had, prior to Prop B "snuffed out" competition, that is to say, a candidate could win in the primary. As the article reports, Prop B voters felt it was better to have two candidates advance to the general rather than 1 win in the primary. Again, three members of the city council supported the Prop B decision of the voters. Thanks,
