Should actually say La Plaza de Armas

Cat Killer on the Loose
I hope I never run into this person. If I do, that would be the last time anybody saw him or her in 1 piece. This person deserves to be cut in half and have their insides tied in a bow. Very upseting.

Restaurants at Rest
Try the Fairmount Diner across the street from the Home Depot on Fairmonunt Ave. Cheap and very tasty selection of homestyle sandwiches (i.e. on 2 slices of bread as opposed to a roll).

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
A humorous but pointless sequel to the humorous and pointless original. This movie had little substance and is basically a slapstick, unintelligent, comedy designed to satisfy the casual movie watcher and their kids. There were some worthwhile parts, particularly the one where Ben Stiller’s character is confronted by Jonas Hill about the perils of touching exhibits at the Smithsonian. Their lively banter only lasted a couple of minutes however and Hill was not seen again for the duration of the movie. Hank Azaria was amuzing as the pharaoh Kamunrah who for some reason had a British accent with a lisp. His performance was way over the top at times and was hard to take seriously which made his scenes look more like Saturday Night Live skits rather than a motion picture. Amy Adams was sexy as Amelia Earhart and was a nice addition to the cast of historical figures. The movie is OK as long as you don’t take it seriously but I would recommend waiting for the DVD or the countless repeat showings on HBO a year from now.

Terminator Salvation
Another unnecessary chapter in the Terminator series. The movie had potential early on but quickly turned into a large continuous battle sequence between the Resistance and Skynet with a few brief interruptions so Christian Bale could shout at somebody. The visual effects and sound were excellent but that was about where the greatness stopped. The story was weak and intentionally left open at the end (presumably so they can make another sequel) leaving you wanting some type of closure when it was done. The star of the movie was Sam Worthington who played the resurrected semi-cyborg Marcus Wright. Anton Yelchin also did a great job as John Connor’s father, Kyle Reese. He is a growing star and should continue to do well in leading roles.

Angels and Demons
A satisfying and exciting sequel to the original. Angels and Demons had a much brisker pace than the Da Vinci Code with plenty of action sequences and tense situations. The storyline was a bit weaker than the first movie however and there were a few questionable plot points. The movie takes place over just a 24 hour period of time and there is a lot of racing from Roman church to another. This movie was more graphic than the first but it was a necessary element that needed to be added to heighten the tension. Although this was not shot at the Vatican, the visual effects and CGI was excellent in that you felt like the characters were actually walking through St. Peter’s Square and the Sistine Chapel. The musical score by Hans Zimmer was important element to the movie and the string solos were outstanding. The ending was unexpected and will leave most viewer a bit shocked. Definitely worth the trip to the theater.
— May 19, 2009 9:51 p.m.
Star Trek
The Star Trek people decided to take their turn at the “Origins” trend that has pervaded the cinema industry the past few years and come up with their own “prequel.” I am not much of a Star Trek fan however I found this adaptation to be both watchable and enjoyable. There were enough amazing visual effects, large explosions, and fighting scenes to keep the casual movie watcher entertained; and plenty space terminology, warp speed “Mr Sulu” references, and “Beam us up Scottie” lines to satisfy the diehard Star Trek fan. The new cast of Star Trek is a good one and all of the original characters are still intact. Zachary Quinto did a really nice job as Spock but I couldn’t keep from thinking when he was going to grab somebody and cut their head open with his finger. Those of you who watch Heroes know what I’m talking about. I liked how Leonard Nimoy was incorporated into the storyline as well, however it was a little distracting because of the fact that he played Spock in earlier films but under different storylines. The writers went keen to make the ship look more modernized and less like a set but they couldn’t do away with the cheesy pull-over sweaters. You would think that if the Star Fleet was spending so much money on their ships, then they could afford to outfit their officers with decent clothes. Overall, a great effort and I look forward to future movies with the new cast.
— May 11, 2009 11:06 p.m.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
This was just basically the movie Christmas Carol with Ebenezer Scrooge being substituted out for a sleazebag womanizer played by Matthew McConaughey. The story is not original, the script is kind of cheesy and it falls short in the laugh department. It’s watchable but not memorable in any way. Michael Douglas was probably the lone bright spot and provided some much needed comic relief to an otherwise non-humorous romance-comedy movie.
— May 9, 2009 11:29 p.m.
Earth
Earth is loaded with stunning visuals, incredible wildlife close-ups, and some very dramatic landscape footage. I found the short piece on the polar bears both fascinating and slightly depressing. Most people don’t know what goes on at the poles and the effect global warming has on our ice caps. The polar bear feels the brunt of this climate change and may soon face extinction if changes aren’t made. The movie wasn’t unlike something else you may have seen on the Discovery Channel but I was amazed at some of the camera shots and how close up that the photographers were able to get to the animals. The underwater footage was particularly impressive. This movie is suitable for anybody who calls Earth home and appreciates nature in its most raw form.
— May 4, 2009 10:42 p.m.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
This was a bit different from the previous X-Men movies in that it focuses in on just one of the characters. You find out where Wolverine came from and how he gained some of his power. The action sequences were exciting but overall it was a bit of a letdown from the previous 3 movies. Ryan Reynolds seemed out of place for an action movie after seeing him in so many comedies and I’ll just chalk that up to miscasting. Gambit was nice addition to the storyline however it makes me wonder why he wasn’t included in any of the other 3 movies. A nice effort but in the end the movie falls short of expectations.

Should actually say La Plaza de Armas— August 1, 2009 2:34 p.m.
Cat Killer on the Loose
I hope I never run into this person. If I do, that would be the last time anybody saw him or her in 1 piece. This person deserves to be cut in half and have their insides tied in a bow. Very upseting.— July 22, 2009 11:42 p.m.
Restaurants at Rest
Try the Fairmount Diner across the street from the Home Depot on Fairmonunt Ave. Cheap and very tasty selection of homestyle sandwiches (i.e. on 2 slices of bread as opposed to a roll).— July 20, 2009 9:53 p.m.
The movie is OK as long as you don’t take it seriously but I would recommend waiting for the DVD or the countless repeat showings on HBO a year from now.— May 28, 2009 11:19 p.m.
He is a growing star and should continue to do well in leading roles.— May 25, 2009 4:55 p.m.
Definitely worth the trip to the theater.— May 19, 2009 9:51 p.m.
Overall, a great effort and I look forward to future movies with the new cast.— May 11, 2009 11:06 p.m.
Michael Douglas was probably the lone bright spot and provided some much needed comic relief to an otherwise non-humorous romance-comedy movie.— May 9, 2009 11:29 p.m.
This movie is suitable for anybody who calls Earth home and appreciates nature in its most raw form.— May 4, 2009 10:42 p.m.
A nice effort but in the end the movie falls short of expectations.— May 3, 2009 12:55 p.m.
