U-T To Get Plans for New Structure Feb. 13; Newsroom To Get New Plans Next Day
The Scott Whitley and Winner/Hearn issues are illustrative of the type of HR bullying that goes on. Were these people low-level managers they would have been marched out the door for violating the company's anti-fraternization policy. In Whitley's case, the "other woman" was not a direct report (she worked in marketing)... but try convincing anyone that the vice-president of advertising did not have the ability to influence (or end) her career.— February 15, 2008 9:37 a.m.
San Diego future without water
Post #24 said: "At least kick the GOB Bush republicans and the Clinton democrats out of office, they have screwed up the last 15 years beyond belief." It is more like the last 19 years with one to go, but who is counting. I am appalled that anyone in this country would consider Hillary Clinton. That would make a minimum of 24 and possibly a 28 year rule by two families. Then what after that? A presidential race between Chelsea Clinton and George P. Bush (Jebs son)? What kind of a third world country are we becoming? Our best and brightest only belong to two families??? We can do a whole lot better.— February 15, 2008 9:35 a.m.
U-T To Get Plans for New Structure Feb. 13; Newsroom To Get New Plans Next Day
Don, Did you ever get one of those hideous coins Fat David had made for the 25 Years Plus workers? The ones with his Fat Face on it? Or one of his Mother, the Old Beast? When Helen was still ambulatory she would attend those luncheons and have an HR person whisper the name of the approaching minion in the recieving line so she could pretend to greet them. And I can't tell you how many employees questioned the relationship between newsdoll Karin Winner and her direct subordinate Lorie Hearn. Inappropriate at best, as bosses should not vacation with their employees! And what about the Advertsing Prez, Scott Whitley, who ditched his wife so he could marry Ramona from Marketing?! Yikes!— February 14, 2008 4:17 p.m.

Time to put Shepard out to pasture...he's not good for San Diego.— February 14, 2008 3:05 p.m.
Keep out of jail cash
Well, one thing we know about John Moores is that he strongly supports his friends, our glorious political masters, right or wrong. Just think of how this "special" law was set up. If you give a politician "improper gifts" which incurs a fine, don't sweat it. You just give your pet a compensatory amount to pay it off. No harm, no foul. Right John? Neither party loses a thing. The donor still gets his disproportionate influence, and the corrupt politician can meekly declare, "We have paid the fines and put this mistake behind us." Oh, what a wonderful and fair system we have in California. Surely it's the best that money can buy. (yet another sdblogger)— February 14, 2008 2:15 p.m.
Unnecessary roughness
Matt, it's me again, Ah, maybe I should retract my previous comment. Now that John Moores is divorcing Becky, I say take the gloves off. Unlike Aguirre, Moores is a known felon sitting on a fortune of ill got gains. And he's no candidate for public office, but a public figure who has had key roles in the running of this State and City, including the UC Board. John Moores' role in the corruption of San Diego and California politics cannot be underestimated. The Spanos clan showed him how to rig the game, and then clever John took the ball and ran with it, all the while bilking investors out of millions with Peregrine. I would very much like to see the details of her complaints as they become available to you, and would find them just as revealing as continued digging into Goldsmith and his connection with, well let's call them "convenient", judicial appointments. (Isn't this a great time to be involved in political reporting?) Best, (yet another sdblogger)— February 14, 2008 2:02 p.m.
Mother of Mogadishu
Becky, we are all eagerly awaiting the juicy details... If you could find the time to shed some light on what John boy was up to during the Peregrine fraud, that would be a service to many small investors who lost their life's savings to his deception and fraud. If you could also find the time to shed some light on John's, ahem, "relationships" with various San Diego politicians, that would be a service to the many citizens who are losing vital city services due to his bribery, deception and fraud. At the very least, you should threaten him with telling the public the truth, and then he'll meekly give you half his ill-gotten gains. I bet you've got some stories to tell...(and yowsah!!, you still look HOT, Becky, no matter what John or his new girlfriend have to say behind your back). Have a nice divorce, and Happy Valentine's Day to both of you..!! (yet another sdblogger)— February 14, 2008 1:50 p.m.
Liarless in Seattle
Don, I have sent you an email through the editor of the Reader. Please reply, and then I'll explain something more of what I've got in mind. Thanks for your encouragement, (yet another sdblogger)— February 14, 2008 1:38 p.m.
Market Bloodbath Overseas; Dow Futures Down 451; Interest Rate Slash Possible Before Tomorrow's Market Opening
Don, it's been a few weeks now. Let's talk consequences. The Fed has thrown the Hail Mary pass and cut interest rates to the bone, but the stock market is still jittery. What next? Shouldn't we get ready for a sharp inflationary spiral? My word, it sure looks to me like we've got continued asset price inflation, (even with the property bubble slowly deflating), and we've got commodities inflation, and with the continuing realignment of the dollar we're gonna get walloped with import price inflation. Is this the master plan to pay off our debts? Inflate our way out of the problem...??? What about all the still unresolved obligations concealed within complex derivatives and other exotic products still floating around the world? Should we anticipate another six months of announcements? "Oops, just found another couple billion in losses, but don't worry folks, we think we've got it all now." How has devaluing the currency worked out historically? I seem to recall some major world powers losing considerably from such a strategy in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Now that the even that provoked your blog entry has passed, how do you assess the outcome, Don? (yet another sdblogger)— February 14, 2008 1:26 p.m.
