Patrick -- The Pads have flamed out, the Chargers are not doing much better and the U.S women's soccer team has been defeated. Is this terrible, beautiful story about what following sports means for you and others like your friend -- brief surcease from looking at the darkest side of human nature? Henceforth I will be more sympathetic to "fans."— October 3, 2007 11:30 a.m.
David Copley's yacht is on the move again
Never mind the publisher's yacht, what do you know about recent rumors of even more staff cuts at the Union -Tribune itself? When can we look forward to that Bob Kittle guy being put into drydock?— October 3, 2007 11:08 a.m.
La Jolla and the Missing $9 Billion
You have to wonder just how much of the money congress has given the Bush administration for this war has ended up in the hands of Bush's politicial supporters places like La Jolla and tax havens around the world. It has to be in the billions. The dems now in control of Congress should open an investigation to get to the bottom of this.— October 3, 2007 10:10 a.m.
Sudden, Deep Slashes at U-T
If it wants to survive, the UT should start by firing its totally lame editorial staff, starting with Bob Kittle. But he's a long-time David Copley favorite, so its more likely that the paper will continue to decline, then be sold by Copley for whatever he can get to keep his giant yacht in gas. Let's hope that whoever buys the paper will try to restore some journalistic ethics, which are sadly missing now.— October 3, 2007 10:06 a.m.
San Diego Slowly Grasps Water Crisis
San Diego is facing a water crisis, but it won't hit until next year. The Metropolitan Water District has taken more water from the Colorado and the delta than we currently need for the last few years and is storing 8 billion gallons of water in its giant Diamond Mountain reservoir and regional ground water aquifers. That surplus water is enough to get southern California through the next 12 months. The real question is what happens after that if the Colorado basin drought persists and if the federal courts cut MWD's delta water supplies by 37%. San Diego county traditionally has taken 25% of MWDs water, but only has legal water rights to 15% of that water. So MWD has the legal rights to cut out water supplies by 40%, before making us take our share of a potential 38% cut in delta water supplies. If that happens, more conservation won't be enough. Alternatives like wastewater recycling and repurification, and desalinization may start to look a lot better to local residents and voters, and politicians than they do now.— October 3, 2007 10 a.m.
City Attorney's Office to Probe Computer Unethicality by Mayor's Office
Its about time someone investigated the many links between Sanders political staffers and the Union-Tribune's editorial staff, including their bloggers. Kudos to the city attorney for investigating the mayor's staffs involvement in this fiasco. Let's hope he follows up and actually brings charges this time, instead of just dropping the case and going off on tangents like he has in the past.— October 3, 2007 9:49 a.m.
Don't Quote Me
In your opening line you say this student has a website dedicated to "unnecessary question marks". Did you mean, unnecessary quote marks rather?— October 3, 2007 7:07 a.m.

fire AJ Smith and Norv Turner. Aj Smith brought in a guy who was clearly not a proven coach, and allowed him to ruin one of the most talented teams in the league. Norv Turner should be fired because he basically has no coaching skills. Its not like i was there, but i think that Norv Turner basically came into the Chargers, took something that wasnt broke-the offense- and attempted to "fix" it by instituting his own brand of garbage offense. At best the chargers win 4 more games and then fire Turner, along with (hopefully) AJ Smith. Now would be a good time for Dean Spanos to invite Bill Cowher out to Torrey Pines for some golf and lobster, or I wonder if Dean still has Marty's email address?— October 2, 2007 6:28 p.m.

What's Behind U-T/Sanders Assault
And now for something completely different...— October 1, 2007 1:34 a.m.
