For City to Stave Off Bankruptcy, There Must Be Sacrifices
Yes it's true that's what the past city management gurus said. The historical data now shows us DROP is not cost neutral. So once again we realize the City Management folks, who designed the program, did a piss-poor job. Certainly that can no longer be a surprise. To stop the hemmoraging our Mayor and Council halted the program on 7-1-05 by MOU. But as we know the C.A. did not formely alter the plan docs (Muni Code)and have the council pass it until 3-2007. So now the City has to ask the courts to decide the correct date. Following logic and past practice the courts will rule in favor of latter date. But the spirit, in keeping with title of this post, employees should follow the 7-1-05 date and voluntarily deny themselves access to the programs. But as a general rule I suspect most will avail themselves of this benefit.— October 27, 2007 9:20 a.m.
Were Rancho Bernardo Residents Warned in Timely Way?
Don Bauder Keep at it. Please check out our commentaries on the fires at a new San Diego blog, OB Rag, at obrag.org. Frank Gormlie— October 26, 2007 9:24 p.m.

Don your missing the point. I'm sure you're a handsome ageless man. But if were checking IDs at the door, verifying the real media types and saw one that said "Don Bauder". I'd have to challenge you just because I seen the mug on this blog page so many times.— October 26, 2007 5:16 p.m.

We need to check credentials at the door now-a-days... and BTW isn't time you updated your smiling mugshot? The one above looks like your UT column header days.— October 26, 2007 1:29 p.m.
U-T Uses Fire to Smear Aguirre -- Inaccurately, As Always
Mr. Bauder, Let me ask this way. If Mr. Aguirre writes, "Access routes may be unavailable, making future evacuation impossible", is he not talking about the need to evacuate now? I wasn't asking about anything else in the memo and would like you to address this specifically. FYI, I voted for Aguirre but have lost faith in his ability. Not a hater.— October 26, 2007 1:20 p.m.
U-T Uses Fire to Smear Aguirre -- Inaccurately, As Always
Dear Mike Aguirre, You have my permission to write a Voluntary Evacuation Plan for San Diego, especially since NO ONE ELSE APPEARS TO BE DOING IT!!! As I see it from the area of South Clairemont Park, if an earthquake struck along the Rose Creek to Ardath Road corridor (I-5) and my family's home became unlivable, where would I go? Where would I tell my son and his family living on Gilmore and trapped on the west side of I-5 to go? Where would the residents of PB go? All of PB would be up here with me on the hills of Clairemont trying to make it out on an undrivable I-5. South to Tijuana? West to the ocean? North to gridlocked Orange County to fight with many millions over limited resources like (dare I say it) water? East to the desert? That might be the easiest escape route once some of us make it safely to I-8. But where will the water be? and the gas? and how much traffic can the east county roads take if all of the city decides to head to Arizona? Do they have a plan for us when we arrive? So many questions!! I'm confused. I'd like every commentor here ridiculing Aguirre to tell me what is wrong with evacuation plans? Or is this just about Mike Aguirre and his style? I don't care who sounds the alarm. I don't have to like that person or want to vote for him. This city needs to tune in to the DISCUSSION. This city is a trap, wedged between sea and desert in the corner of this country. THIS CITY HAD BETTER HAVE AN EVACuATION PLAN and you idiots who think this is funny or ridiculous had better answer to me as a private citizen. Your behavior is strange for a San Diegan. San Diegans should be alerted and now is the best time. What is wrong with that? Thank you, Mike!!— October 26, 2007 1:17 p.m.

Mr. Bauder From the memo itself: "2. Access routes may be unavailable, making future evacuation impossible:" How does this not mean we need to evacuate now? I read your responses as double talk. Implement a plan means what it says, "put the plan in action". He did not say, "let's develop a plan". Regards...— October 26, 2007 12:09 p.m.

Aguirre on Emergency Committee; Governor Sought Advice
Don, and Reader editors, as things stand because of the state of Fourth Estate in San Diego today, the politicians that the U-T establishment controls represent dominant republican special interests regardless of what constituents want most as defined and quantified in Direction of the Country polls. And it is most interesting that in the latest L.A. Times poll, the democratic “majority” congress was shown to be more unpopular than Bush: Its approval rating was 22%, the president's 35%. Thus democratic representatives like Susan Davis, Boxer and Feinstein are most easily neutralized and demonized in spite of their “majority” status because they keep proving that there are absolutely no effective democrats to lead the congress in the right directions. So much for the two party system at the national level, while the U-T establishment still rules San Diego and we all suffer consequences such as the 2003 and 2007 firestorms while they get away with using democrats like Aguirre, Frye, Boxer et al. as their scapegoats with most arrogant impunity. That’s why it’s time for The Reader to start making the right things happen for your readership and the community because you are our only recourse today. Tony— October 26, 2007 10:19 a.m.
