U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
Post #16: Don, I've always noticed how the UT panders to La Jolla and "The Ranch." Just this week they are polling people and asking for input" on the La Jolla Childrens Pool seal and court descision controversey. To me the UT has always taken side with getting rid of the seals. Rather than just reporting the story as both side fight the issue, it seems like the UT takes sides. As if someone working atthe UT lives in La Jolla and has a personal desire to see the seals go. This I had always felt odd becuase the UT usually stands behind businesses and development and I feel that chasin off the seals will result in negative publicity and loss of tourism for La Jolla. But I guess for someone who doesn't enjoy tourists in La Jolla and would like to se it go back to the old days, getting rid of the seals is a start. Or perhaps the seals attract people that La Jolla doesn't want because they may use of the parking but not spend money.— December 4, 2007 12:57 p.m.

U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
I worked in HR at the UT for many years. When Herb Klein retired HR was tasked to quietly look at the Number 2 editors at the top 10 metros ... see if there were some people who might be interested in the UT Number 1 spot. The thinking was that Crazy David would move Karin into Herb's ceremonial role. Alas, Crazy David could not bear to kick his ageing socialite editor upstairs. So, off he sailed on his yacht while his flagship paper continued to sink.— December 4, 2007 9:33 a.m.

"Death Spiral" is well put. At present, the SDUT editors are lacking in simple tasks like grammar and spelling. They use teaser (misleading or confusing) headlines for stories and then publish stories that have not been thoroughly investigated. Their best news seems to come for their AP and syndicate feeds. It’s really sad to be watching our cities daily paper shrink in content and substance.— December 4, 2007 7:54 a.m.
U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
Lopping heads at the UT does not address the fundamental problems of shrinking readership and ad revenue. Until newsdoll Karin Winner is replaced, count on the paper becoming less and less relevant. What a laugh too that the formerly lay-off resistant Copley has now had three huge lay-offs in four years. The first was in Circulation in '04. At the time, the newsies did not even notice. "Not our department." Now Fat David has lay-off fever.— December 4, 2007 7 a.m.

Where's multiple DUI offender David Copley's and his yacht, "Happy Days" (the largest composite yacht ever built), while all this turmoil is going on here at home?— December 4, 2007 6:51 a.m.
U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
Although he won't take the offer, I hope they send that "troll" Ruben Navarrette and his racist baiting stories out the door. The problem with the SDUT is they're editorials are trying to be all things to all people and they're offending the long time subscribers while they try to pander to the people that can barely read or speak English.— December 4, 2007 6:40 a.m.
U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
Many readers probably don't realize it, but the U-T used to be published twice a day, once in the morning as the San Diego Union and again in the afternoon as the Evening Tribune. In the old days the Evening Tribune was printed on green paper. We also used to have the Clairemont Sentinel and the Clairemont Independant, fine community newspapers that have been forgotten.— December 3, 2007 10:02 p.m.
U-T Announces Massive Buyout Plan
Well you called it. Maybe if they get lean, they'll also get mean and start doing what the PRESS is suppose to do. Keep an eye on government. The U/T has let the citizens of San Diego down by turning a blind eye to the goings on at City Hall. Would we be so lucky to get Mr. Kittle to take an early retirement?— December 3, 2007 6:08 p.m.
