And Now You Don't Know the Rest of the Story
RAAAAR!— December 27, 2007 5:55 p.m.
Old People Behind the Wheel
I agree and would also like to see the DMV do a yearly driving exam on any person over age 65.— December 27, 2007 5:54 p.m.
Blackwater Proponents Lose in Landslides
i've lived in Potrero & those folks just want to have some PEACE & QUIET in their neck of the world. the egg ranch 'blackwater' wants was zoned for agriculture and for a reason! the water resouces are limited & it has been maintained a pristine area...you get helicopters flying & guns going off & guys in black creeping and crawling into the wrong neighbors yard & Lord knows what'll happen. They can find suitable other places who'd embrace their tactics and their purpose. Folks in Potrero do not. Mercinaries are not welcome. There are too many ecological species on the verge of destruction in that valley, and the traffic would be too much. I OBJECT TO THE BACK-ROOM DEALS TO GET THIS THROUGH.— December 27, 2007 5:49 p.m.
314 City Retirees Getting $1 Million or More
In response to Comment #18, doesn’t this really show the "value" of today's dollars, or stated more clearly, the lack of value of these dollars is shameful. Those of us over 55 can all remember the days of 25 cent a gallon gasoline, $20 a month utility bills and movies cost a buck at the theater. This sensationalism over “a million dollars” sounds dramatic but as the cost of living has gone through the roof during our lifetimes, I wonder, with health care costs rising if a million dollars in future value will even equate to a standard of living above the poverty line in 20 years.— December 27, 2007 3:40 p.m.
Is Bell Retiring from U-T? Rumor Makes Sense

SDCERS Does Mea Culpa Over 14 IRS Violations, but DROP and Purchase of Service Credits Still Not Before the Agency
Hmmm... that's funny, Richard Rider is claiming that property tax income for the city is still going up regardless of what the economy does.— December 27, 2007 1:48 p.m.
Copley Selling Casa del Zorro in Borrego, Wants Sale by End of Year
Wasn't Casa del Zorro "sentimental" for the Copleys because it was the trysting place for Helen "HellCat" Hunt and James Copley when she was busy breaking up his marriage???— December 27, 2007 9:52 a.m.
Copley Selling Casa del Zorro in Borrego, Wants Sale by End of Year
Mr. Bauder, just wondering who removes the comments. There were several comments on here eariler today by former pressroom employees that have suddenly disappeared in the last several hours. What's up? The one letter was well written and spoke of the loss of production bonus, increase of health benefits, lack of a raise for over 10 years. I know this to be true as I too was a pressroom employee at the time and know all these facts to be true and could add more to the subject. Anyway just wondering why some of the letters are being removed. Thank You— December 26, 2007 9:09 p.m.
Copley Selling Casa del Zorro in Borrego, Wants Sale by End of Year
MR. BAUDER: As always, thank you for your articles, not to change the subject, but for a future article, could you enlighten the good citizens of San Diego on how the city was able tocome up with $20,000,000? in a heartbeat to fix the Mt. Soledad landslide, but when I ask Councilwoman Adkins to fix a 2'X2' pothole I here there is no money? (about once a week I throw in several shovelfuls of dirt from my yard in the pothole), interesting? Thank you kind sir!— December 26, 2007 6:49 p.m.
Is Bell Retiring from U-T? Rumor Makes Sense
As a former long time employee of the pressroom who also was a victim of the head chopping a few years ago, please let me say that bad morale in the Pressroom is nothing new. It started in the early nineties with the lack of a contract, the removal of our weekly production bonus, and increasing medical co-pays. Things just continued to go downhill from there. It's said that you can boil a frog alive by putting him in a cold pot of water and slowly turniing the heat up. The frog is perfectly capable of jumping out at any time, but he reasons that he can tolerate the heat turned up in small increments. Before he realizes it, the heat is so hot he dies. This is the logic the UT management has slowly, slowly inflicted on the the pressroom employees over the last 17 years. It was cruel, and it was intentional. I feel bad for all the people who's lives are hanging in limbo right now and at the mercy of their employer. Let me offer this: There IS life after the Union Tribune! and it's a GREAT life! You will be amazed at how well other employers treat people. It will take some time to regroup, but a year from now you will want to call the UT and thank them for changing your life for the better! Believe me, I've been thanking them every day for four years :)— December 26, 2007 3:30 p.m.
