Not to worry. Moores is going to make up for reneging on the ballpark agreement by taking over all the area around the airport and developing that in the best interest of San Diegans everywhere. I believe him this time, I really do. just because his wife finally discovered he was growing horns after 40+ years is no reason for us to think he doesn't have our best interests at heart.— February 11, 2008 4:13 p.m.

1,000 Downtown Condos for Sale; Another 1,300 Coming on Line in Two Years; Prices Plunging
Who wants to live downtown? It did not grow around an infrastructure like other, older large cities. It just popped up on speculation that people would buy - before the other guys got done building -. Bosa from Vancouver made a killing. It's so expensive to live and stay downtown. Where are the small eateries? Small grocers? Everything is a Gas lamp restaurant, chain or something expensive with prices geared toward conventioneers and tourists. There are no schools for married couples children. There really are few open spaces. The parking is terrible and expensive. People are already complaining about the train and trolley noise. The homeless situation has been made worse by the development that made them take to the streets when the low cost hotel/apartments were torn down. So now we have many more homeless or people living 8 to an apartment while so-called luxury condos sit empty. I home people watching the Chargers and their quest for a new stadium are watching this, because the dirty little secret is the ball park in-and-of-itself are primarily responsible for this mess. Maybe that's why the Chargers are shopping their show somewhere else, because San Diego can't afford another mess like Moores created with the Padres.— February 11, 2008 2:52 p.m.

Don, the fact that you were on management payroll was ALWAYS in the HR spotlight. You had no direct reports and did not manage a functional area ... in essence you were cheated of overtime because you were entitled to it under the law. There are countless others who are similarly misclassified there. You ought to look into the advertising department, where people who sell on for the national and majors categories are also denied overtime. In the late nineties, everyone urged me to buy stocks as a surefire money maker. So I bought property instead. When they told me that property was a surefire investment, I sold mine. I think political change is something that is now similarly undervalued in our market. Most people tell me it's a waste of my time and money...hmmmm. Maybe they're wrong about that. Goodness..!! Does this mean that all those supposed revenues and benefits from downtown development "spurred" by the "generosity" of John Moores and the Padres have actually put the city at risk of a even more severe revenue collapse? My, oh my. So McGrory and Gwinn's machinations have backfired, dooming us to a spiral of debt? Golly, The UT cheerleaders still, somehow, hope we'll get out of this? Jeepers! Our "leaders" and media cheerleaders still mouth the words of optimism about our glorious future? Oh, heck... And we paid them how much to do this to us? *#%$!!! Well, at least there's the silver lining that affordable living will return to downtown. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic today, but I don't see much good coming for San Diego any time soon. We're supposed to be one of the smartest cities on the planet today. Look at what we're doing with our research institutions! I meet intelligent and well informed people every day. Not everyone is a beach bunny just wanting to "have a nice day". So I hope to put San Diego firmly in the "sophisticated city" list. Isn't that much more attractive than just a major league city? Further, I welcomed the Voice eagerly, but have grown steadily disappointed. Yes, they are covering real estate better than anyone. Sometimes, their Cafe San Diego is illuminating, like when the mouthpiece for Blackwater got spanked by San Diegans. Also, in the comments to the letters to the editor, you'll see the written admission that Gary Moore, the UT ad division head from 96-99, sat in on news meetings. Illuminating, hmmm? Nice to have it in writing, Gary. Thanks! So the Voice, by being online and hosting blogs (even if often edited) allows motivated citizens, until now blocked from effectively participating in our political arena, some limited access. SLOP's author...I'm still out. He started like a greyhound, but got distracted by the pretty baubles of being the celebrated new San Diego wonder boy. He's for sure too enamored by the Chargers' Fabiani, but seems to be coming around to reality. The longer he stays in San Diego, the more we'll see how he develops. Either as another toady, or as a real information seeker. His future will be much better served by the latter strategy, even if it requires a few bruised feelings in the short run.
