Pension Costs Reach 69% of City Payroll, Says DeMaio
Fine then. But if the charge isn't libel, then I can't imagine what it would be. If it is, then you would do a huge service to those of us whose academic degrees don't measure up to yours by sharing what you know on the matter of libel and "anonymity" in the age of Internet publishing. Thank you. This doesn't concern me, but it does concern the present forum.— January 22, 2010 1:38 p.m.

I see. You're presenting him with subpoenas that don't contain charges. Thanks for clarifying that.— January 22, 2010 1:29 p.m.

"Subpeonas are not charges." Correct, but they contain charges.— January 22, 2010 1:22 p.m.

Q. "Who said anything about charges???" A. "Keep it up Captian, you're two subpoenas away from me, and we will see who has the last laugh here."— January 22, 2010 1:15 p.m.
Pension Costs Reach 69% of City Payroll, Says DeMaio
Good point, Pete; thanks, but I'm not so sure that would constitute libel. Anyway, SP still hasn't stated what the charge is. Johnny?— January 22, 2010 1:02 p.m.

(#75) What would the charge be, exactly? Libel against an anonymous person?— January 22, 2010 12:47 p.m.

(#51) Whew...a world-class meltdown. Bravo. (#50) Go easy, JW. They apparently don't offer remedial English at Harvard Law School.— January 21, 2010 6:44 p.m.
Sorry, Citizen Journalist
"The other way, is to see the Reader as a truly democratic form of journalism where [practically] anyone can participate in creating content for this large and popular local publication." Which was in fact its stated intention in its very earliest issues back in 1972.— January 17, 2010 1:30 p.m.
Hedgecock Dropped by Los Angeles Station
(#34) Don, He was a call-in talk-show host on KCBQ in the mid-'60s. He started every call with "235-4411, KCBQ, Pat Michaels," and the station started a promotion flooding San Diego with buttons and bumper stickers saying, "I Hate Pat Michaels." The ostensible rationale for this, as I recall it, was that by directing people's hatred toward himself it would make the world a little better or some such reasoning. As a kid, I took that at face value, but as an adult I realize it was just a clever reverse-psychology promotion, akin to the slogan "Primus sucks!!!" for the rock group Primus. Of course I remember Happy Hare. I even remember him shooting over the Stadium scoreboard with Evel Knievel. (I'm so old I still just call it "the Stadium.")— January 13, 2010 10:49 a.m.
Hedgecock Dropped by Los Angeles Station
(#9) CA Comedy, I suppose you can recite the following by heart: "235-4411, KCBQ, Pat Michaels." And I suppose you remember "I Hate Pat Michaels." A clever promotion, now that I think about it.— January 12, 2010 11:08 a.m.
