This is a outrageous. Gives new meaning to sunshine tax...!! :(— July 12, 2016 11:43 p.m.
Cheese mistaken for meth
This is bizarre. There obviously needs to better and more extensive procedures. It is simply ridiculous that other tests were not done and the person had to spend time in jail as a result.— February 7, 2016 11:51 a.m.
Charter-school backer buys hefty stake in Union-Tribune
Newspapers need to adopt their advertising to the the digital age. People are not interested in seeing large ads on a web site. Newspapers have failed to realize this and thus have lost a of subscribers. They ideally need a keyword advertising like Google has.— February 7, 2016 8:56 a.m.
Will self-driving cars and delivery drones take your job?
tt's quite possible that self-driving cars could eliminate many jobs. I really do not see delivery drones taking many jobs due to the regulations that are being put in place. It also does not seem practical due to the sheer number of drones that would be required. There are many jobs that can be automated. But there will also be many new jobs created so long as government stays out of the way.— September 16, 2015 6:06 p.m.
USD’s Frank Partnoy might scare you
The wealth distribution problem is not a easy one to address if it is a problem to begin with. Trying to solve it with a wealth tax like and higher taxes is not the answer. We should try to address the problem with lower taxes and reducing government spending. Lowering the capital gains and corporate taxes is a good start. A much more direct way to help out the middle and lower class is deport the illegal aliens. People often say it's hard or impractical. But a TIP's program and requiring mandatory E-Verify would solve much of the problem. I propose a $100,000 fine on every person or company that hires a undocumented worker. Half would go to the tipper the other half would go to the government. Businesses would drop them like hot potatoes once the fines hit them. We could issue green cards as our economy needed too.— September 5, 2015 7:14 a.m.
USD’s Frank Partnoy might scare you
I do not have a problem with the banks investing in derivatives. So long as they are required to put aside the requisite amount of reserves that is necessary to meet the risk. The risk ratios need to be increased of course.— September 5, 2015 6:57 a.m.
Homeless camp cleanup downtown
I have mixed feelings about the situation. My own belief is that the homeless have the right the sleep outside. They should be left alone so long as long as they are not creating a big public nuisance. There is some homeless that live in Bill Cleator park by Correia Jr high in Pt Loma. They do not tend to cause much problems. But any time you have large numbers of them there will be problems. The Caltrans people showed compassion by setting aside their backpacks and sleeping bags.— September 5, 2015 6:30 a.m.
The pay is decent, but is Greenpeace?
I have known a few people and their quota system seems extremely harsh. If you do not meet your quota 2 weeks in a row you are terminated. But if you exceed your quota you are not given credit for for it. So if you meet exceed your quota 3 weeks in a row and miss it twice you are fired.— August 28, 2015 6:27 a.m.
City bites doggie daycare for $100K
These fees are government at it's worst. It's almost as if they are trying to discourage a business from operating.— August 23, 2015 12:17 a.m.
Sell, sell, sell that Tribune Publishing stock
The big problem is that the newspapers have failed to adapt their advertising format to the internet. The newspapers need something like Google's simple keyword advertising that is not obtrusive to the reader for online.— August 17, 2015 6:42 a.m.
