The ’Burbs
This reminds me of the time my Mom was telling me about a co-worker who was looking for a new place to live, because where she lived (I believe it was Encanto) was too dangerous. When my Mom suggested Mira Mesa, where she lived, the woman replied "Nah, that place don't have enough attitude". What she didn't get was the connection between places with "attitude" and places with all that other stuff she was trying to get away from. It sounds like you're missing the "attitude", too. Be careful what you wish for.— July 1, 2009 3:34 p.m.
Oceanside Cop Back to Work
Man, this is the first time I've disagreed with every comment. Sorry, but you're all wrong on this one. Silva provoked this whole incident by being a druggie lunatic and White did what cops are programmed to do, protect himself and other innocent civilians by getting in between the public and the perpetrator and STOPPING THEM before they hurt someone. The jury came to the right decision and White deserves to get his job back. Fred, you're off-base saying cops never get investigated. They get investigated every time anything questionable happens, as you know very well. If they get the benefit of the doubt, that is as it should be. They have a dangerous and difficult job, protecting the majority of us from the few who would victimize us. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.— July 1, 2009 3:25 p.m.
The Grass is Always Greener. (MUCH greener in this case)
It sounds like you're looking for the "bohemian" experience, which you're going to find a lot more easily in Seattle than SoCal. Try visiting Hollyweird, you may find a nice compromise there.— July 1, 2009 2:20 a.m.
Neighborly Noises
This piece does a great job of highlighting the problem everyone should think about. This guy was getting bothered by other people's noise, but didn't stop to wonder if his was bothering anybody else. We all need to be more considerate. Ask yourself if what you do that makes noise might be bothering someone else. Not bothering you, but someone else. If the answer is yes, try to not do it. If we all did this, the world would be a more pleasant place.— June 30, 2009 11:57 a.m.
Leaf Blower (ain't no snow in San Diego)
I could not be more with you on this one. Those things are second only to Harleys as the worst, most obnoxious (and unnecessary) noise polluters. Buy a broom, people.— June 30, 2009 11:39 a.m.
Keep the Tip!
BTW, how was pizza nova? People say it's good. Where does it stack up?— June 28, 2009 4:34 a.m.
Keep the Tip!
So what did you end up tipping him? I'm betting you woosed out. Most people do when they talk about lowering the tip. They're afraid they'll leave the little tip and have to see the waiter again before they can sneak out, so they still end up leaving like 15%. Start tipping what the service was worth, people! How else will bad waiters ever figure out they're bad?— June 28, 2009 4:33 a.m.
Conspiracy Theories
I vote we start treating Spliff like we do the crazy homeless guys ranting on the corner - just ignore him and keep walking.— June 27, 2009 12:38 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
It's sad that as a group black people are some of the most racist people I've ever been around. Spliff and idiots like him only make it worse with the weak argument that they can't be racist, because they we're once subjugated. Spliff, pull YOUR head out of YOUR azz, or better yet put it back in and leave it there. Stop bringing your weak shyt to the boards for the rest of us to swat. Holla!!— June 27, 2009 12:06 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
"He was arguably the most talented artist of the last century" ???? Reggie, you need to get out more. He was in the right place at the right time with a new pop sound, and made some bold videos. But his music won't stand the test of time any more than Paula Abdul.— June 26, 2009 1:27 a.m.
