Between National Boundaries
You are right to say that we are all human beings, but very wrong to say that that imaginary line doesn't mean anything, and even more wrong, incredibly, naively wrong, to say patriotism is imaginary and unnecessary. If that line doesn't mean anything, why don't you ask a few Mexican citizens if they'd like to give up their sovereignty and become a part of the U.S. By your logic it should be a no-brainer. But I suspect you'd instead get a lesson in patriotism from those Mexicanos. I don't know if you have a family, but ask yourself what you'd do if they were threatened. Would you die for them? Now extend that to your country. That is patriotism.— July 6, 2009 5:36 a.m.
Pornography at the Work Place
It amazes me that even after Tonya Harding's sex tape got out, Pam Anderson's sex tape got out, Paris Hilton's sex tape got out, and so many others, that not only does she not learn from that and keep this thing under the tightest security, but she let's it get onto something she's giving to the kids? Amazing how dumb people can be.— July 6, 2009 5:18 a.m.

Keep the Tip!
I've actually read somewhere that etiquette dictates the waiter not bring the check until you ask for it. Most places don't seem to follow this, but if you want the check make sure you ask for it. Of course, to ask for it, the waiter has to show their face once in a while.— July 1, 2009 11:21 p.m.
No Bull -- Another Child Dies Because of Bad Parenting
OXFORD, Fla. - A 2-year-old girl apparently was strangled Wednesday by her family's 8-foot-long pet Burmese python, officials said. Shaunia Hare was already dead when paramedics arrived at about 10 a.m. ET, Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office said. Charles Jason Darnell, the snake's owner and the boyfriend of Shaunia's mother, said he discovered the snake missing from its terrarium and went to the girl's room, where he found it on the girl and bite marks on her head, Caruthers said. Darnell, 32, said he stabbed the snake until he was able to pry the child away, and then called 911. "The baby's dead!" the sobbing caller from the house screamed to a 911 dispatcher in a recording. "Our stupid snake got out in the middle of the night and strangled the baby." "She got out of the cage last night and got into the baby's crib and strangled her to death," the caller said. Authorities removed the snake from the home Wednesday afternoon. Once outside the small, tan home, the snake was placed in a bag and then inside a dog crate. The snake was still alive. Darnell did not have a permit for the snake, which would be a second-degree misdemeanor, said Joy Hill, a spokeswoman with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He has not been charged, but Caruthers said investigators were looking into whether there was child neglect or if any other laws were broken. NBC affiliate WESH reported that Darnell told deputies he left the snake in a bag in the terrarium just before the family went to sleep. The python was one of two snakes in the home — the other is a 6-foot-long boa constrictor. Both snakes are alive, Carruthers said. Two other children also lived there, WESH reported. The Humane Society of the United States said including Wednesday’s death, at least 12 people have been killed in the U.S. by pet pythons since 1980, including five children. George Van Horn, owner of Reptile World Serpentarium in St. Cloud, said the strangulation could have occurred because the snake felt threatened or because it thought the child was food. "They are always operating on instinct," he said. "Even the largest person can become overpowered by a python." OPINIONS???????— July 1, 2009 5:56 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Spliff, you have to give us a history lesson on racism because it's irrelevent today. I even disagree with Josh's statement "I really think, if there's a job applicant that is white and one that is black, and the boss doing the hiring is white...he would probably lean towards hiring the white guy (assuming all their qualities are equal)". The reality is, most employers will bend over backward to make their workforce as diverse as possible, to prove they're not racist, as well as in an effort to avoid getting sued. Look at the just-decided firefighter case. The city threw out test results it didn't like, discriminating against the white firefighters in the process, in an effort to avoid getting sued. But Spliff if you want to give us a history lesson, why don't you tell us about all the white people who died in the civil war to establish a country free of slavery. They fought and died for you. Or tell us about all the slavery that went on in Africa before white people ever showed up. Slavery is as old as man. The weak have always been enslaved by the strong. It's only white, western civilization that finally put a stop to it. Holla!!— July 1, 2009 4:09 p.m.

Although I'm completely sympathetic to your plight (I hate inconsiderate, noisy neighbors) I will say in their defense I don't think you can have a reasonable expectation of sleeping with your window open and not being bothered. However if you close your window and their noise is loud enough to penetrate, at that point you have a legitimate grievance.— July 1, 2009 3:40 p.m.
