Where to find humor in San Diego
I'm imagining the flurry of forwarding this article is going to inspire. That dude sitting at the bar will have them in his pocket next week.— July 9, 2009 2:28 p.m.
Unforgettable: A Walk on the Stingaree Side, Part 2
A “soiled dove” hallooed. “Ma’am,” he replied, “I have ten reasons why I cannot do that — and the first is money.” “Then,” she said, waving a dismissive handkerchief, “never mind the rest.” That's funny. Good writing. Looking forward to more.— July 9, 2009 1:53 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
It's obvious he thinks "Amerikkka" is a racist country, and blacks don't have an equal shot. As long as he and any other black believes this, what I said applies. It's a convenient excuse. Meanwhile, blacks that have talent and ability in all fields get ahead, just like anyone else. Barack Obama, Oprah, Colin Powell, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, and any other hugely successful black person you want to name got ahead by working hard in their chosen field, not feeling sorry for themselves and for what happened in the past. As for why there are problems like high crime and low test scores in the black community, why don't you ask Bill Cosby what he thinks. Or Tavis Smiley. Or just listen to some gangsta' rap and draw your own conclusions.— July 8, 2009 6:24 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Spliff as long as you have racism to blame for every failing of your life, you never have to take responsibility for anything, and things won't change. People like Martin Luther King took responsibility for changing an unjust society that judged people on the color of their skin. Today it's time for people to take responsibility for the content of their character.— July 7, 2009 6:42 p.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
Surfidiot, just so you know, I'm not a cop, am in no way connected to law enforcement, and have a post-grad level education. Can you say the same? We need a lawyer to weigh in on this (and not some crazy ACLU lawyer). Any out there? Who's right?— July 7, 2009 6:26 p.m.
Two Athletes Shot to Death -- Steve McNair and Alexis Arguello
I feel bad for the kids as well, but I must take exception to one thing you said. "he should realize that having an affair with someone that young probably isn't a good idea". Dude, what's the point of being a rich, famous athlete if you can't land hot 20 year olds when you're 39? Really, come on. His mistake was not making sure she was unarmed.— July 7, 2009 5 a.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
Ponzi, great advice on how to get away with driving drunk. Good job. Refried, the rules for customs when you cross the border are different than those for cops. ALL OF YOU, the cop had a right to positively identify the person he was talking to. That's why he asked for her date of birth. If you don't have a picture ID that's standard. She had a right to refuse, at which point he has a right to take her to the station and fingerprint her to identify her. When she refused to cooperate he therefore has a right to use physical force to detain her, and the other partygoers don't have a right to interfere. If you still can't wrap your minds around this I refer you back to comment 8.— July 7, 2009 4:52 a.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
MB, I think you're seeing what you want to see in this incident, rather than seeing it for what it is.— July 6, 2009 4:46 p.m.
The Good 'Ole Days
Interesting observations. I guess you could say with freedom comes responsibility. Women now have the freedom to live the lives they choose to live, but they also have responsibility for them. They can choose to abdicate responsibility to a domineereing provider, but then must take the good with the bad. Or they can try, like so many, to balance single-motherhood and job, probably sacrificing satisfaction in both in the process. We can't escape who we are. Most women want to be mothers. It's a biological imperative. Unfortunately for women (and often kids)men's biological imperative is to spread the seed as widely as possible.— July 6, 2009 4:41 p.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
I've said this before but I'll say it again. The people who have trouble in interactions with cops are the people who have problem's with authority. "Authority: Legal or rightful power; a right to command or to act; power exercised buy a person in virtue of his office or trust; dominion; jurisdiction; authorization". If a cop is investigating whether a crime has been committed, and let's be honest he can say he's doing this just about any time he wants, he has the right to positively identify you, and to detain you while he conducts his investigation. This sucks if you think you haven't done anything wrong, but that's not for you to decide. He has the AUTHORITY to make that decision. Play nice and be cooperative, and things usually go fine.— July 6, 2009 4:26 p.m.
