You should change your screen name to that.— July 25, 2009 5:13 p.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
Sd and refried, it seems like your attitude (judging from your posts) is that all perspectives are equally valid, that no one is, or can be, right or wrong. That if you think something, if you have a perspective or make a judgement, that it comes from the accumulated experience of your life and is therefore just as valid as anyone elses. I've heard this kind of thinking before, and it's nonsense. Some things are either true or not, right or wrong. This is why I'd rather not have Pistol Pete on my side. He talks about his "enlightened" attitudes about blacks, but to me it sounds like "stockholm syndrome". This is a guy who's completely lost his perspective. As for sd and refried, the fact that blacks think racism exists doesn't therefore make their idiotic behavior valid. It makes them wrong. They're behaving based on a false assumption, proceeding from an invalid premise. To say that their perceptions (right or wrong) validate things like the LA riots is insane (sorry sd, but the word fits).— July 25, 2009 5:07 p.m.

On a lighter note: After the President talked to Officer Crowley, apologizing for his choice of words, Obama said Crowley joked that maybe he and Gates could have a beer in the White House some day. "We don't know if that's scheduled yet," Obama said, adding that Crowley also asked if the president could do something about getting reporters off his lawn. "I informed him I couldn't get the press off my lawn." Obama said.— July 24, 2009 1:36 p.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
Edwin Dorn, a former dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas and author of Rules and Racial Equality, said the magnitude of the Gates arrest can be understood through the reactions from blacks and whites. "If one conducts a survey, one will find that overwhelmingly blacks feel that this was an example of something that is part of their DNA — police discrimination, oppression, racial profiling. It's likely that you'll find a much larger percentage of whites believing, just instantly, that it was Gates who behaved intemperately," Dorn said. "It's an example of how the races still view things very differently." He said whites are far more likely than blacks to believe that police officers arriving at their doorstep are likely to do the right thing. Far from the case, Dorn said, for blacks. LIKE I SAID PREVIOUSLY, THEY'RE NOT INTERESTED IN WHAT'S REAL. JUST IN PERPETUATING THE MYTH.— July 24, 2009 1:32 p.m.

Sd want to tell us now that he MEANT to use "explanation" marks here, (it's exclamation, Spliff) because he's "explaining" things to us?— July 24, 2009 12:18 p.m.

Best Sports Moments -- (and pitching a perfect game)
This is a pretty good list of moments. The gymnast making the vault and landing on her broken leg, because the team needed her, is maybe my most inspirational. Here's another one. Even though I'm a Padre fan, and therefore hate the Dodgers, when an injured Kirk Gibson came out of the dugout to pinch hit, and hit the winning homer off the unhittable Dennis Eckersley. That was pretty phenomenal.— July 24, 2009 11:49 a.m.

As for people like Spliff and apparently Obama, they aren't interested in facts, evidence, or reality. They are going to see what they want to see. Earl Graves, CEO of Black Enterprise magazine said "imagine a white professor, a distinguished white professor at Harvard, walking around with a cane, going into his own house, being harassed or stopped by the police. It would never happen." Yet as we know, it just did in Encinitas. Greg Ridgeway, who has a Ph.D in statistics and studies racial profiling for the RAND research group, said on Monday. "You're never going to be able to (statistically) prove racial profiling. ... There's always a plausible explanation." U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., said that was partly because "when you look at statistics, and you're trying to prove the extent, the information comes back that there's not nearly as much (profiling) as we continue to experience." Wrote Lawrence Bobo, Gates' Harvard colleague, who picked his friend up from jail: "Ain't nothing post-racial about the United States of America." These people will always see what they want to see.— July 24, 2009 11:39 a.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
Sgt. James Crowley, who is a police academy expert on racial profiling, responded to Gates' home near Harvard University last week to investigate a report of a burglary and demanded Gates show him identification. Police say Gates at first refused and accused the officer of racism. "Mister Gates was given plenty of opportunities to stop what he was doing. He didn't. He acted very irrational he controlled the outcome of that event." "There was a lot of yelling, there was references to my mother, something you wouldn't expect from anybody that should be grateful that you were there investigating a report of a crime in progress, let alone a Harvard University professor." According to the police report, Crowley asked Gates to talk outside, to which he responded "Yeah, I'll speak with your mama outside." Josh you nailed it when you compared this incident to the one with Busby. It went down the same way. An old person acts like a jerk to the cops and won't give ID, they end up getting detained, and then they cry prejudice - "I was only detained because I'm (a Democrat) (black)".— July 24, 2009 11:19 a.m.
