Fear and Distrust in Baja
kwete, with all due respect, you're an idiot. Ever hear of Duke Cunningham? When people abuse their positions here, they usually get caught. And there is also, to me, a big difference between a congressman soliciting a bribe in a backroom somewhere, and a person feeling like they're not safe walking down the street minding their own business, because if the criminals don't get them, the cops will.— July 29, 2009 1:34 a.m.
Fear and Distrust in Baja
kwete what's your point? I hope you're not trying to justify corruption. Especially out of police, the people you need to be able to trust. I have been pulled over and shaken down three times down there, so I finally said I just can't drive down here anymore. Even though it's inconvenient, I'll have to walk across and use cabs. Then I got shaken down last time I was down there just walking down Revolucion. It's already dead down there compared to how it used to be. If they don't get this crap under control it's going to be a ghost town. The criminals and the cops can take turns shaking each other down, because they'll be the only one's left.— July 28, 2009 1:23 a.m.

Juvenile Decoy
It's too bad we have to have a law that requires retailers to lock up their paint, to prevent juvenile (and not so juvenile) delinquints with no respect for other people's property from defacing it, but if we must then the police must enforce it.— July 27, 2009 3:26 a.m.
Parent of the Year Award Goes to....
In my perfect world, all girls would get depo starting at 12 or so, and they wouldn't be allowed to get off it until they proved they were capable of being a good parent. They'd have to take parenting classes, and prove they were in a position financially to support a child. Since I've long thought religiosity and IQ are inversely proportional, I'd like to think anyone retarded enough to deprive their child of medical treatment on religious grounds would never make the cut.— July 27, 2009 3:20 a.m.
So many San Diegans carry guns
HPD: Man, 74, Shoots Carjacker, 18 Teen Shot Twice POSTED: Thursday, July 23, 2009 UPDATED: 4:33 pm CDT July 23, 2009 HOUSTON -- A 74-year-old man shot a teenager who tried to carjack him outside his home, police told KPRC Local 2. • Houston police said Martin Baltazar, 18, approached August Peters as he was getting out of a car at a home in the 10900 block of Corona Lane shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday. Investigators said Baltazar, wearing a ski mask, put a knife to Peters' throat and told the man to hand over his keys. Peters got back in his car, pulled out a gun and and fired twice -- hitting Baltazar once in the stomach, police said. Detectives said Baltazar ran through a house across the street and tried to run through a back door, but it was locked. "I see the guy running to my house, and I see a lot of blood on him. I told that guy, 'Stay there,'" witness Jorge Ramos said. Baltazar picked up a chair, threw it through a window and jumped out the window, police said. Ramos said the suspect took his pants off in order to get through the window. He then jumped a fence and collapsed two blocks away on Carvel Lane near Wilcrest Drive, investigators said. Baltazar was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in fair condition. No one else was not injured. Police said Baltazar could face an aggravated robbery charge.— July 26, 2009 3:04 a.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
Pete: "I'd tell 'em "Look....I know what you do is wrong(rape, murder, drug dealing, pimping, carjacking, etc, etc) but I don't care. I like YOU for YOU regardless of the drama that is happening in your life. I don't give a f--k who you rob or kill unless it's someone related to me." WOW. That's some scary thinking. Then you say "I played bones with them. I drank the 40s of Colt 45 and the Boone's Farm/Mad Dog 20/20 with them". I say it sounds like "Stockholm syndrome", the premise of which is that people being held hostage, their lives threatened, will actually start to sympathise and side with their captors as a self-preservation tactic. It's not a conscious decision. It's just what happens. You were stuck living in this environment, and you found a way to survive, and a way to justify it to yourself.— July 26, 2009 1:12 a.m.

Burger and Fries with Extra Lettuce (drive thru with guns)
Pete and Mindy, I found the newspaper account of your robbery: A man enters a McDonalds, shows the cashier a $20 bill and asks the cashier for change for the $20. Upon the cashier opening the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun on the Circle K employee and demanded money. The cashier complied, but when the crook left, he forgot his $20 bill. He left it on the counter. When he fled the scene, he was carrying $15. His net total from the robbery: negative $5. Who says crime always pays? Sometimes it’s the criminal that pays.— July 25, 2009 8:56 p.m.
