I felt very abused watching this. I call on U-T TV to resign immediately, and I'm in the process of getting a couple of lawyers to insist that unnamed people they represent were sexually harassed in ways that can only be imagined and not specified. Or else.

Police investigating mysterious disappearance of Padres President/CEO Tom Garfinkel

Brilliant, as usual. Although honestly, this is as good of an explanation as any. Padres management has NOT been forthcoming (no surprise there, my calls went unanswered), and tendering a resignation on July 9th, on social media day, and no less on TACO TUESDAY leads one to believe that this was not, in fact, part of normal "ownership transition".

Padres President and CEO Tom Garfinkel resigns

Garfinkel was very close with Jeff Moorad, so it was a little surprising that Ron Fowler and the new ownership group kept him on. Tom's resignation wouldn't have been a surprise in October, but it was entirely unexpected on July 9th. All parties are claiming that it is just another part of ownership transition, but that's difficult to buy into considering that there isn't already a successor in place. I have more questions than answers but the Padres management isn't talking about it.

Loews Coronado: “Get off the beach, dog”

It should be, but it isn't. You have to get a permit in order to operate any event on the beach. You can take whichever side you wish on the dogsuit issue, but you'll have to take that position within the parameters of whatever permit that had to be pulled to operate the event on the beach. It isn't ours anymore, it belongs to the government.

John Moores getting heavily into horse racing

It's more difficult to dope horses without being caught in Europe because they don't allow the diuretic Lasix to be administered prior to a race. Lasix masks the use of other drugs. It is used in North America under the guise that it inhibits "bleeding", which over-stressed horses often do in their lungs during a race. Lasix should be banned in North America as well, there are plenty of folks in the industry who are pushing for that.

Jeff Olson, the Mad Chalker, prosecuted by city attorney for words in front of Bank Of America

I'm very proud of the Reader for this piece, the entire coverage of Jeff Olson's ordeal, and for exposing the audacity of the City Attorney for prosecuting Olsen with taxpayer dollars (the City Attorney should not only be dismissed but also be order to pay all court expenses out-of-pocket). This made National news, and thanks to Mr. Hargrove, it is a perfect example of how alternative weekly publications are notoriously necessary, since mainstream media fails to provide proper coverage on how all branches of government are so easily manhandled by huge corporations. Olson has proven his point here, even more so than having done nothing more than drawing what amounts to harmless hopscotch chalk patterns on city sidewalks, in that large corporate entities seem to be powerful enough to direct the government to cast off a shoe and use it to smash us often-helpless slugs into submission. Good job Mr. Hargrove, and good job Mr. Olson, I thank you both.

Padres split with Dodgers and Padres fans ready to fire everyone

I'm not certain that Volquez is going to get that money next season. He's no longer arbitration eligible in 2014 by the way, he's a clear free agent. My point with Edinson has been that if they can't get any real prospect for him then maybe they try and sign him for a year, maybe at $5 million. If that number is too low for him, then I agree, you let him walk. But a lot of folks would like to see him gone right now, regardless, and I'm not certain that's a little foolish since all you're likely to get in return is someone else's project-in-the-making. And the Padres have plenty of those already. I would love to talk to Balsley about what he thinks of Arrieta but you know those guys don't say anything until they have them on the squad and even then they don't really say anything. This is an excellent comment, and I think you're right on in the way you consider value as the big part of any trade.
