Fender not bent, failed scam
Well this is all speculative. How about this guess: the car that was parked in the same space before the Prius parked there DID hit the older car in front and left some damage. The note-leaver could have been right about the ding, but put the note on the wrong car (the Prius) because the car that hit her had left, and this would not be known to the note-leaver. This is not really news, IMO.— April 7, 2016 11:12 a.m.
India Street "speedway" under consideration
This makes no sense. I drive this stretch of India and it's never too congested. There is no need for a 4th lane. I am guessing the airport authority thinks its a good idea because the new rental car center on PCH will probably tell renters to use Sassafras to get to the nearest 5 North entrance. But even if that's true, 3 lanes are plenty. Parking is needed a lot more than a 4th lane. So dumb.— April 7, 2016 11:05 a.m.
The craft beer numbers are in...
Just a note, I have heard that Twisted Manzanita is not permanently closed, and they intend to re-open after some kind of reorganization. I have no details to share, but I do trust my source on this one.— April 5, 2016 11:39 a.m.
Little Japan in Tijuana
I don't question your knowledge of Japan's bread ingredients, but the miso donuts I had at Hinoki & the Bird in LA were not traditionally Japanese but they are on my top 5 all time best desserts I have ever had. Miso has so much umami it adds depth to many things, regardless of tradition.— April 5, 2016 11:18 a.m.
Free jazz trio at Bread & Salt
Ummmmm...not free. But still lots of cool stuff, some that is free. But not the Bread & Salt show: "Fresh Sound presents a trio of two saxophones (Larry Ochs, Dave Rempis) and one trumpet (Darren Johnston) at Bread & Salt (1955 Julian Avenue) at 7:30 p.m. $15 at the door, $10 students…"— April 5, 2016 11:06 a.m.
Ex SeaWorld manager charged with embezzlement
The Hubbs Research Institute is the more science-y arm of the company. I think the HQ for Hubbs is where the restaurant used to be, at the west terminus of the skyride. They do a ton of important work, such as research and preservation for black sea bass. The amusement park is about entertainment and making $, so I view them as separate entities despite their ties.— April 5, 2016 10:54 a.m.
Ex SeaWorld manager charged with embezzlement
When I worked as a stadium vendor at 15 y/o during summer in high school I was allowed to eat broken churros at no charge. But I was warned not to break them "purposefully" just to get a churro. Sounds like this guy had a much better scam in place than snapping churros. The free park pass was pretty nice though, even though I rarely felt like going to my place of work on an off-day. Long time ago...— April 5, 2016 10:45 a.m.
Burgers for all in South Park
Thank you for the updated review about the improved burgers. I felt the same way - the burgers (I have not been for a year for food) were just okay. Many places nearby had more flavorful patties. I always liked the patio, and it is a nice place for mixed groups where some have kids and some don't. Sounds like I need to stop by and give the regular cheeseburger another shot. Maybe the recipe or staff changed? I always thought the burgers were overly pressed/formed, i.e., the patty was too dense from over-handling to make it a perfect puck. I prefer the looser blob-esque patties that seem to retain juices more. In any case, I will check it out again.— April 5, 2016 10:40 a.m.
Chargers stadium task force "packed"
Thanks for the prompt response and the information. I appreciate it. Makes it easier to see what the challenge is compared to other markets. We are well behind the 10th place market in %.— February 9, 2015 1:55 p.m.
Chargers stadium task force "packed"
Don, thanks for the article. I see the discussion about market rankings, but believe we may be missing the boat focusing on the ordinal ranking of the market. To me what matters is the %difference in size. For example, being 17th sounds low, but perhaps San Diego is only 10% smaller than the 10th ranked market, making the difference, though large, not catastrophic. Do you have access the the actual market sizes from the Dept. of Commerce? I'd love to see those numbers instead of the ordinal rankings. Thanks again Don.— February 9, 2015 9:17 a.m.
