THE FILM DAILY - August 16, 1941. Something like the 10th movie adaptation of the Jekyll and Hyde story and arguably the least engaging at the time of its release. Spencer Tracy was universally panned for playing the part without makeup. History has proven Tracy's detractors wrong and Ingrid Bergman and Lana Turner lend strong support. It's Metro's typically overblown production values and Victor Fleming's reticent direction that act as sand in the gears.
