I lucked out the day I visited Dallas’ West End Historic District as there was an Island Pirate Party in full swing on Market Street. About half the attendees were dressed as pirates and/or Jimmy Buffet fans. The West End District reached nationwide prominence in the 1960s when President John F. Kennedy was shot in its Dealey Plaza. In
June 1976, as Downtown Dallas' skyline was changing and history was being demolished local developer Preston Carter Jr. revitalized the West End Historic District with preservation in mind. Old warehouses and other brick buildings were converted to restaurants and shops. The area appears to be thriving and kids love that giant dinosaur!
