A Lake Murray baby osprey’s bittersweet rescue
Wonderful story, Gloria! I know that you are a REAL PERSON and love nature as we all do. Thank you for this update. Great job.— June 6, 2013 12:05 p.m.
Sixties hitmaker Mark Lindsay (Paul Revere & The Raiders) makes surprise appearance at Ugly Things Magazines 30th Anniversary Celebration
Oh, the memories! I remember being madly in love with Mark Lindsay and had his Paul Revere & the Raiders posters all over by bedroom wall as a teenager. He actually looks pretty good right now.— May 27, 2013 5:34 p.m.
Frontier soul: Anchorage, AK
Agree very much with this story on wonderful Anchorage but I will say that the hardy souls who call this city home may not fare too well with being considered good-looking. "The Worst Dressed People Live ...in Anchorage, Alaska! Travel + Leisure magazine, in its annual America's Favorite Cities survey does not mince words: "Instead of wearing clothing with classic lines in colors that match, they wear tight-fitting tops that show off rolls of fat.!" Yuck. The men wear lots of flannel. Yuck again.— May 19, 2013 9:41 p.m.
Point Loma Sprouts fires longtime employee for alleged theft
This comment was removed by the site staff.Point Loma Sprouts fires longtime employee for alleged theft
I went to Sprouts this morning and talked with several people. Having once worked there when it was a Henry's, I have lots of friends who were honest with me about this situation. There is more to this story than just a stolen jacket. A new manager just came on board and there is severe cost-cutting going on. Employees at the Pt. Loma Sprouts are grumbling severely about hours being cut. The Reader did not use my story on this subject even though it contained a very important... <em>[edited]</m> If this is a set-up to get rid of a long-time, high-earning employee, it would not surprise me, since I have seen it happen many times there, myself. Ian is so beloved--he will find another job. Trader Joes already has his application and I am going to the Grocery Outlet tomorrow to talk to them about hiring Ian. He is an asset to any company that hires him, DISABILITIES OR NOT! Please like this Facebook page that supports him: https://www.facebook.com/ian.rey.372. Thanks.— May 8, 2013 9:22 p.m.
Rundown on SDPD’s Homeless Outreach Team
"A follow up with the police would have been in order, to find out what this story was all about. I'm curious!"— May 1, 2013 12:21 p.m.
Goldsmith, DeMaio among hosts of fundraiser for Dumanis's next DA campaign
Friends & Countrymen: You now have an alternative to the Dirty D.A. An attorney with an excellent reputation has now stepped forward to challenge Bonnie Dumanis for the D.A.'s office in 2014. As you can see from the caliber of people already endorsing the Boston crone, it is business-as-usual with Bonnie. What we need is a breath-of-fresh-air, some new blood downtown and Robert Brewer is just that person. Do not be resigned to forlornly casting a vote for someone you know in your heart does not deserve it. Let us tidy up that "Hell of Justice" and put someone on the 13th floor that does not brown-nose rich people, persecute ill medical marijuana patients and go on KUSI Morning Show every Thursday and ruin people's day at breakfast time. Check this dude Robert Brewer out. He looks like he might be mean but that's what we need to sweep the Dirty D.A. out of office once & for all! http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/apr/2…— April 27, 2013 4:38 p.m.
Few visit women at Las Colinas jail
There are prison ministries that go out and visit several women's prisons. I was involved with one that went out to area women's work camps a couple of years ago. There were a lot of rules to follow and a big background check to pass but it was worth it. One Saturday per month, we would gather a group and drive up to these places and hang out with the gals. It was a very rewarding experience for us and I think the incarcerated ladies enjoyed the attention too.— April 14, 2013 9:10 p.m.
Dumanis draws first re-election opponent
I predicted at the time of Dumanis's ill-fated venture into mayoral politics, that she would suffer by having a "loser" designation now applied to her. And it most certainly has come to pass with this strong candidate appearing to challenge her. I don't feel that he is "odious" at all and looking at Brewer's resume, it seems mightily impressive. Let's hope he can rear up and wave the garlic cloves and wooden stake to repel Dumanis away from her blood-sucking lair on the 13th floor at the "Hell of Justice."— April 11, 2013 9:48 p.m.
