Auditor, ethics director back plan to purge emails
The reason I did a PRA request for the document was I wanted to see who signed it. It is worse than I thought. I expected only to see Gloria's and Goldsmith's signatures. That would have been bad enough - that the City Attorney approved and signed an illegal Executive Order. But now what worries me even more is the ease with which the City Attorney (or people who have control over him) was able to persuade, if not out-and-out order, key officials such as the City Auditor and the Ethics Commission Director to countersign a clearly illegal document. Why the Independent Budget Analyst was asked to sign is particularly troubling. She is in no way part of the Executive. Her job is to advise the City Council at all stages of the Executive's Budget. Has she lost her way? Why would she get involved in an Executive Order? It appears we have a hidden government within our City government that can order our City officials what to do and that these powerful insiders do not want us to see what is going on. We must all redouble our efforts to break through - after all, they work for us.— March 10, 2014 7:53 p.m.
Faulconer names SD's first female police chief
I think he meant was O'Connor gay. Shelley would know, she was her driver and bodyguard for several years and knew everything that went on. Mayor "Mo" mixed with the top society so Shelley would have learned who is naughty and who is nice about town. Good stuff for an ambitious gal to know. Now no doubt Kevin will put it all to good use. Knowledge is power.— February 27, 2014 5:46 p.m.
Faulconer names SD's first female police chief
I'm not sure how close Shelley Zimmerman and Kevin Faulconer are but I don't think Katherine Stuart, Kevin's wife, has much to worry about - Shelley is gay.— February 27, 2014 1:52 p.m.
Filner accuser McCormack Jackson to get $250K
I got the impression that Allred and McCormack were trying to put the best face on what is really a defeat for them. They must have been disappointed at the press attendance. None of the big reporters like Gene Cubbison were there. Allred will now try to make Irene McCormack the Erin Brockovich of sexual harassment, the new personal injury claims, with the usual book and movie deal. Good. Because this all really belongs in the entertainment section, prurient fiction and drama.— February 11, 2014 4:43 p.m.
Filner accuser McCormack Jackson to get $250K
Katheryn and I actually showed it to the auditor yesterday, while waiting for the Item to be called at the Council meeting. It was on the docket. Mr. Luna looked at Katheryn's notes and had no answer but he did suggest we ask the IBA to look at it. I have no doubt Katheryn will pursue it to the end.— February 11, 2014 4:17 p.m.
GOP and Koch-backed think tank operative gives Nathan Fletcher funding assist

No, the Labor Council is still a rock, now more than ever. I am just disappointed that it didn't have a more worthy candidate to give its support to other than Alvarez. They had little choice even though he is far from a labor man. Maybe it will change him. He is in fact a protégé of the Duchenys. Al & Denise are wealthy Latino landlords, based in Barrio Logan but not exactly labor people. Al is boss and remains in the background. Alvarez will do whatever the boss tells him. The construction unions will go with whoever is in the best position to get them PLAs on the Convention Center Expansion and other City projects. That is probably Gloria. Todd was elected to Council mainly by contractors' money. He plays the contractors off against the construction unions and gets money from both. The Labor Council could still get Alvarez elected but it will take an organizing effort never seen before. That would be great. At least this time they are straight AFL-CIO, no more messing around with the City's MEA. That stuff all came from Lorena and Zucchett who are both City politicians and could give a rats about the non-City blue collar workers. Maybe now we will see what the Labor Movement is really all about. Lorena and her best friend Nathan Fletcher should do the honest thing and go sign up as Republicans.— September 13, 2013 12:34 p.m.

monaghan: yes "the local Democratic Party has spectacularly sold its soul". It's as if instead of Fletcher becoming a Democrat the local Party has become Republican. If somebody could point out the difference between the two parties right now I would be glad to hear it. How can it praise a Fletcher and condemn a Filner? The Labor Council is the only bright spot on the left now. But its soul has been at least temporarily hollowed out by Lorena Gonzalez, Fletcher's long-time secret friend. The LC now has nobody to back other than Alvarez who voted for Jacobs' rape of Balboa Park. Alvarez will continue to kiss up to Jacobs to get the Dem endorsement only to be denied it anyway. He is just another Vargas, Hueso, Gonzalez and Gloria who give lip service to the Left while taking money from the Right. How can we realistically expect the only trustworthy candidate we've got, Bruce Coons, to beat all that dirty money? The best he can hope for is a good showing in the Primary. How could Donna Frye and her co-conspirators have brought us to this? Just when things looked so bright? How could they ever have believed in anything the Democratic Party or the Left stood for and bring down a good and honest man like Bob Filner in an orgy of irrational hatred not seen in America since Salem? They have a lot to answer for. The damage they have done may never be repaired. The Dream may indeed be dead.— September 13, 2013 8:46 a.m.
City emails show employees scrambling to justify North Park Jack in the Box permits
"It was determined by our Deputy Director, Bob Manis, that we would not look at drive-thru as a use but as a development regulation." Is Bob Manis back in San Diego? He went to Poway a few years back. If he is back it is bad news for the people of San Diego and good news for every crooked developer around.— September 12, 2013 2:12 a.m.
City Attorney's Office responds to sexual harassment lawsuit on Filner's behalf
This is called due process. This why we all put our hands on our hearts and proudly swear the pledge of allegiance "with liberty and justice for all". The City is obliged to defend every man or woman who puts everything they have on the line in public service. The City Attorney understand this. It would have done no less for him if he needed it. Thank God for America. Let this be a lesson to those who screamed that Mayor Filner "got all the process he was due" in an open-air kangaroo trial by press conference.— September 11, 2013 3:23 p.m.
