Hi Fred and Brian,
If you haven't seen Cory's Sunroad lawsuit already here it is:
http://www.briggslawcorp.com/site/files_user/1373…
I agree with him that the best way to prevent either the City Council, the Mayor or City staff from playing money games with City property is to make them obey the law. That's what Filner should have done instead of demanding money from Story, no matter how it was to be used.
I think Cory's lawsuit should be the main object of media attention not sexual harassment, which as you rightly point out Brian, is taking our eyes off the ball. "If it bleeds it leads" is the motto of the media. If no blood then sex. Unfortunately Marco and Donna gave them the sex. They are in a frenzy.
I just wish Cory had not joined them in calling for the Mayor's resignation. That was overkill and not good for the city. I hope he now continues to do what he does best, protect the commons and leave the protection of vulnerable females to those best qualified for that sensitive job.
Perhaps Filner should rehire Donna and put her in charge of female sensitivity at the City. — July 12, 2013 9:35 a.m.
Mayor Filner: PLEASE don't resign
The Mayor's Office must not be a partisan office according to the City Charter. This coup attempt proves how important that concept is. The two parties have shown that they are one worse than the other, both in it for nothing other than what they can get from the City. Thank goodness Bob Filner is neither a Democratic Mayor nor a Republican Mayor. That is why he is in the pickle he is in. But if we the people support him through this we will have scored a victory that will change this city for decades. It is good to read what you all write here in The Reader and thanks to Matt Potter for taking such a magnificent lead. It is unthinkable that these special interests should be allowed to decide who can sit in the Mayor's Office and who can not. So keep writing Matt and I hope all like-minded people make their views known here.— July 13, 2013 4:35 p.m.
Todd Gloria Mayoral signs ready pre-Pride and Filner has NOT even resigned!!
Thank you Matt as always for your insight.— July 13, 2013 4:01 p.m.
Big people talk about issues; small people talk about people

Don, I should have written "there is a lot of PUBLIC money involved downtown and on the waterfront". Thanks for pointing that out.— July 12, 2013 8:45 a.m.

Don, you are like a breath of fresh air. I agree with everything you say here including your always polite replies to the comments. I particularly agree with your last paragraph: "But the politicians whose names are being thrown around to replace Filner, if he can't overcome these obstacles, are those who would turn the City back to the downtown boosters. Now that is a BIG problem." There is a lot of money involved downtown and on the waterfront. I fear that that is really what this is all about. Filner is refusing to play their money games and they want somebody who will. I hope for the sake of all of us that he survives.— July 12, 2013 2:09 a.m.
Donna Frye muses on San Diego strong mayor and district elections
Nice job Joe. Donna is a classy lady and we owe her a lot. I wish somebody would hire her as a columnist or commission her to write a book.— January 26, 2012 10:29 a.m.
Sanders's "Frighten 'Em" Prop. D Scam
Don: So you also think that Seiler may be leaking the mail-ins to Krvaric and Sanders as a running poll? Is there any way we can find out? Is there not some on-going independent supervision of the mail-in count? Has Seiler sole custody of it? Was that why our Republican Supes hired her? We know that her ex-employer, Diebold is an extention of the GOP. Like you I had assumed it was why Sanders had taken to the road with his Town Hall Halloween Show, but I had hoped it was because Seiler was tipping him that Prop D was losing badly. Now you've got me worried that maybe he was a no-show because she is telling him that it is winning by a wide margin. But somehow I can't see that. Maybe he is getting ready to resign if D goes down in flames. Wouldn't that be nice. Maybe his wife can see the writing on the wall and will pull him out of the game if it gets too rough. Wives do that you know. PS. Thanks for the link and quote.— October 20, 2010 8:56 p.m.
Did Somebody Change the Charter?
CCDC's $80 million cash contribution to the DT Library could have balanced this year's budget and saved lives. It is not a question of the merit of any of these capital projects, we simply can't afford to pay for day-to-day commitments.— July 29, 2010 12:37 p.m.
Did Somebody Change the Charter?
Don, here are links to the two MOLs mentioned by Mr. Goldsmith. http://blogofsandiego.com/Issues/Library/ML-90-2.… http://blogofsandiego.com/Issues/Library/ML-91-76… As our email exchange was on the record and subject to a PRA request, here is a copy of the emails: http://blogofsandiego.com/Issues/Library/Charter%… It should not be considered a new MOL as I'm sure Jan never intended it as such. But clearly it reflects his thinking. Aguirre probably feels that what was done in '91 to avoid a devastating impact on sewer rates, in complying with a mandated Clean Water Program, is different from building an optional library. Also there is the question of whether this phased funding technique will be applied to other major capital projects. Anyway, it all makes for an interesting discussion on your blog.— July 29, 2010 11:05 a.m.
