Often, a shirt vendor will do the art work. Check with ASB folks, or others who frequently order shirts, to find out who is reliable, and is big enough to supply various styles and sizes. I recommend that we pick a color and stay with it....In this case, red would work well with an outline of a bandit-type person with a mask in black. (There are lots of shirt vendors, some better than others.) Perhaps someone can volunteer to be the treasurer and start collecting money for the shirt effort...I'll be happy to contribute to the start-up. We'd need to collect enough to underwrite the purchase of a first order and then start selling. (Maybe a PayPal account for online shirt sales?) Here's a thought -- the upcoming Bonita Fest (perhaps other venues such as the Lemon Festival and other similar fairs) would be a great place to sell shirts and spread the word. They would also be great places to solicit 'interest' cards or contact information from folks who would be interested in participating once strategies are in place, especially as the campaign season opens up next spring. Once there is a logo design established place, banners and buttons can also be made for sale. Someone with business experience would need to assist with the formalities to get up and operating. Perhaps there can be a finance committee chair; and a person who will guide the actual organization, and explore opportunity and responsibility for non-profit status. It is like a campaign, but not for an election (yet)...rather to get folks rallied and aware that there are opportunities to protest the status quo and to help educate everyone about the need for change. GO TEAM!— June 27, 2013 3:45 p.m.

Good idea about the tee shirts. How about STOP Sweetwater Schools Corruption NOW! Ask me How! Slogans should be concise and include a 'call to action'. Maybe an image of a bandit in a mask with an X across it.— June 27, 2013 2:26 p.m.

So disappointed in Dan Shinoff. He KNOWS better because he really knows the law. He has gone astray. Dan....take the time to think about the folks you are supposed to represent.— June 26, 2013 9:03 p.m.

I believe that student record data, including telephone numbers, are protected by the federal FERPA law (which mandates privacy for student information). You can learn more by googling FERPA. It is outrageous that SUHSD students are subject to robo calls from a PRIVATE, expensive so-called university without having the chance to opt-in (better than opting out). Wonder how the district moguls will explain THAT?— June 26, 2013 11:17 a.m.

They sure do have our attention, I'll say that for the lot of them: in addition to the indictments for perjury, extortion, etc., etc., there are Brown Act violations by the numbers; PRA requests foot-dragging; much sleight-of-hand (when is a contract not a contract? When it's a MOU, but YOU can't see it!); call-in board meetings from a janitor's closet. WHEN WILL THE PERFIDY STOP??? So sad to think that the good intentions of the Brown Act (that the public's business actually be done in public) are for naught. Yet, we need to make sure to call them OUT for every transgression, otherwise they will believe they are getting away with it all. The more 'call outs' we have, the more ammo at election time. Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
Clearly, John McCann (and/or timtim) has issues with the truth, leadership, and his own messianic self image. His bizarre behavior, need for absolute power and control over others while he rides roughshod unchecked through our neighborhoods planting illegal campaign signs on public property, indicates just how far off he really is! I suggest we save our collective energies (others have suggested that too) and not expect him to act or be a reasonable person. Let's not continue to expect rational sober behavior from a maniac. A jerk is as a jerk does. I believe he is on a self-destructive path. ( I do worry about his family.) Rather, let's spend our collective energies on the higher road of planning for change at the ballot box. TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK Time is on our side.— June 21, 2013 4:07 p.m.

I agree that in tight times, the expenditures should be scrutinized. That said, let's make sure to be inclusinve in our invitation to direct the future of the district. Surely the Chambers have an interest and can be an effective means to help right the ship of Sweetwater. Chamber members have interest in the future of the community,,,and are integral to that conversation. Our community is largely based on the quality of our schools, and therein lies our mutual interest.— June 20, 2013 8:04 p.m.

Anniej, I appreciate your point of view about the Chambers. However, the total for all of them is only about $1,000...the MOST expensive is (Otay Mesa, I think) at $500. Chula Vista is just over $100, National City and IB less than that. It seeems to me that the Chambers of Commerce have a vested interest in having good schools in their communities, ergo I would hope they would CARE about what is going on IN the schools and at the District. We should invite them to the table of our conversation!!! The social expenditures for Chamber parties I would protest , including the sponsorships (if any) and buying whole tables at the installation gala dinners....now THAT is an excessive way to provide Board Members with 'exposure' to the local establishment. Presumably, those expenses are covered in another way, but of course, with the public's money. I also encourage you not to throw the Chamber baby out with the bathwater, and to visualize 'life after the trials and life after Brand' when a new, and one hopes, restored District, will want to have good relationships with civic organizations such as the Chambers of Commerce. Chamber memberships are inexpensive and have potential to do much good for the students by developing internship and other opportunities. It's the $1200 memberships like the CMAA (construction management organization) that I think deserve a good review before throwing good money after bad, so to speak.— June 20, 2013 6:33 p.m.

P.S. The amounts for the Chambers of Commerce do not seem out of line. I think it might be a good thing for District employees to participate on Chamber committees (not necessarily only at the annual installation galas which are great for political exposure). In the past, Chamber of Commerce support for schools has been essential. For example, The CV Chamber of Commerce was an early supporter of Southwestern College and the initial bond issues to build the campus. It seems a natural affinity relationship (when not soured by criminal activity). Perhaps it would be a good thing if the local Chambers took a serious interest in the SUHSD. Members of the Chamber are opinionmakers and community leaders -- they should be in the forefront to restore the SUHSD to its essential purposes! Most of them do have Education Committee...invite their chairs to attend next week's meeting so they can get an earful. They need to learn that current difficulties are NOT union-based : rather, board members have fallen off the responsibility wagon.— June 20, 2013 4:23 p.m.
