Chula Vista school hurries to get ready for Arne Duncan
Dear chulavista resident and MEG: OF COURSE WE HAVE AN AGENDA! GLAD YOU RECOGNIZED THAT WE ARE INTENT! We pursue our goal of bringing transparency to the secretive and dark ways of the Superintendent and his henchmen in the Sweetwater District...a school district that is SUPPOSED to be about educating our future citizens. Ed and Co. are not setting a very good example, so we are trying very hard to be diligent citizens and stakeholders to 'help' them make better choices about how they spend our money and educate our children. We have learned they are not to be trusted with any public money, and this is yet another example of their perfidy. You may become upset as we call them out, AGAIN, but then that is our right as we foot the bill and have the Constitution on our side. If you think you can scare or silence us by challenging our right to express our opinions, you should think again, and again, and again. In this instance, they are indeed taking yet another opportunity to appear as though things are just ducky (they are not....4 of 5 trustees indicted, money flying out the window to pay for underwater real estate ventures, wheels and deals with private so-called universities, ad nauseam. ) Susan Luzzaro has done yeoman's work to keep the community informed of the travesties and tricks being foisted on this community. She deserves our applause I, for one, love the headline to this story: "We're painting the roses red" a la Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Duncan may just as well find himself tumbling down the rabbit hole if he ventures too close to fast Eddy.— September 6, 2013 1:57 p.m.

No can do Angry Birds...there is no explanation because it is twilight zone stuff. I'm looking for Rod S. behind the curtain with Ed B.— August 23, 2013 10:42 a.m.

It's the old 'bob 'n weave' strategy. Now he is brain-injured....oops, now he is just peachy keen and eager to get out and press the flesh with LittleLeague fans. It just might be intended to distract attention from the cause of the accident, and fault of a certain driver who was possibly using a cell phone at the time. Perhaps he was brain-injured BEFORE the accident? Meanwhile, Rome, er, SUHSD burns. Over crowding at non-improvement schools as a result of influx of students from all those schools on improvement needed status. Missing $$80Million from Mello Roos funds that are supposed to pay for new schools in the MR taxed areas (coincidentially, those seem to be where the over crowding is occuring.) Fast Eddy continues the shell game with Alliant and District properties and real estate schemes. Schools that need bussing to help facilitate after-school activities are being charged premium rates for the busses, while Ed proposes bussing students to some distant Alliant campus to take the high-cost so-called college classes he is touting. Do NOT look for logic in any of this folks, because there is none to be found!— August 23, 2013 10:14 a.m.

You are so right anniej. Keep his (and their) feet to the fire. I am thinking that one scenario in Brand/McCannville is that Brand does not get in the way of , and perhaps assists McCann's mayoral aspirations. Once enconsed on that throne, McCann can 'partner' with Brand and these private high cost so-called universities to facilitate Sweetwater U on the property gifted to the City of CV by the developer(s) as part of the Western Parcel Otay Ranch land use plan. Brand gets annointed as Chancellor for Life of this sorry cluster of wannabe 'colleges' and eventually hires McCann for a cushy position when he is termed out of his Mayorship. That is what Brand and toadies would probably call 'visionary'. The students lose, the taxpayers lose, the City of Chula Vista will be giving prime real estate away, but hey, it's Brand behind the curtain in OZ.— August 22, 2013 6:28 p.m.

My guess is that Brand is so enamored of the Alliant proposal because it is one of his building blocks for 'Sweetwater University'...perhaps he envisions himself as "Chancellor for Life" at such an 'institution' down the road. He really does not care about the educational value students might receive for their many $$$$ at these private 'wannabe' so-called universities...he only cares that Ed gets his way and can land on his feet. His buddies in the banking biz can get rich on the student loans, which you and I taxpayers subsidize. Kudos to the everyone who played a part in calling Ed out on this one, and for making sure National City folks get the information they needed to make a responsible decision. It is unlikely that Ed is going to throw in the towel on this one. I agree that he may look to the high school campuses to 'host' Alliant next. By the way, I see that the Hilltop High bulletin includes information about two 'adult' classes for students who have failed math or 'everything but math'...wonder if any member of the public can attend, I also wonder if these 'adult' classes have been publicized in the community?— August 22, 2013 10:05 a.m.

Hooray for the NC Planning Commission for sticking to its guns. Hooray for the citieznry for 'dissuading' the officials from going down Ed Brand's path to nowhere with Alliant. Hooray for us all that we are able to hold the line with this guy and take back our school district. Hooray!— August 21, 2013 8:09 p.m.
National City Planning Commission prodded to decide on making space for Alliant Int'l University
So....Fast Eddy pursues the Alliant project WITHOUT BOARD APPROVAL? The Board is the only body that can legally authorize such agreements as MOUs and contracts. Apparently, Ed is not informed. There are no procedures, no protocols, no processes in place. It is a true monarchy with King Ed at the helm. God save us!— August 20, 2013 8:03 p.m.

Yes, eastlaker, you are on target. Fast Eddy continues to spend District dollars (our tax money that should go for actual education for our kids in grades 7-12) trolling community organzations and their leaders for access and likely 'quid pro quo' arrangements to support his strange and dubious causes. As we have conjured in the past, perhaps it is all a diversionary side show to distract us from the whereabouts, and possible disappearance of the multi-millions $$$ in Mello Roos funds, his real estate capers, and goodness knows what else in his bag 'o tricks.— August 19, 2013 5:10 p.m.

There may be a pattern emerging here. First, Fast Eddy has South Bay Community Services make telephone calls to recruit SUHSD juniors and seniors for Alliant. I think it is a fair guess that he paid SBCS something to do that work on his (and Alliant's) behalf. Now, he proposes to pay South County YMCAs to do some recruiting work, too. Seems like he is spreading the SUHSD 'wealth' --- your tax money and mine --- around town, perhaps to garner favor and good will of the leaders and board members of those organizations. Check out the boards of directors for those organizations....they include a host of community 'leaders', opinion-makers and some political players as well. Wonder which community service group he will try to co-opt into his camp next?— August 19, 2013 12:28 p.m.

Greeenville, please tell us what the DWAST teachers are for? I am not familiar with that acronym. Thanks!— August 18, 2013 3:56 p.m.
