McCann's plan a sham?
Does anyone know why Campaign Finance Disclosure Reports are not posted on the Chula Vista City Clerk's website? Wouldn't that info be useful to voters before casting their ballots? It is supposed to be public information, why the secrecy? According to the FPPC, the reports for city elections are maintained by the city clerk's office. I do hope the City of Chula Vista is more accountable to its citizens than it appears.— October 20, 2014 11:03 a.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
Susan, it does take all of us to recall the details of perfidy, as you note, there has been so much of it. I do not doubt that McCann was just as involved in the 'pay to play' as the others, although he came later to the table...he was just aligned with the right party/person to avoid being indicted with the others who happened to be Democrats when the DA was a Republican.— October 19, 2014 8:46 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
Seems like a strange set up for any meaningful dialogue. It will be interesting to know how McCann responds when 'uncomfortable' questions are posed to him in person. Wonder if he'll come with bodyguards?— October 19, 2014 4:22 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
McCann is certainly a crybaby, but that's how self-centered narcissistic personalities are. They are also easily incited to anger, and that's not a good quality to have in a public official, especially while seated on the dais. We have seen McCann's anger flashpoints, to the point of pursuing costly temporary restraining orders placed on those very citizens he was supposed to be representing! Let's recall that at the time of the investigations and indictments, the DA herself was positioning for a run for SD Mayor. I understand she is a Republican. John McCann, long a golden boy of the same Republican party, was likely spared to avoid alienating the Republican money folk upon whom the DA was going to rely for financial backing. Ergo, in my opinion, she decided to investigate and purse others who were Democrats and she could call out as 'corrupt'. John admitted to taking campaign money, and Ed Brand even admitted under oath to seeking campaign money on John's behalf from those same developers... all of which the DA chose not to pursue.— October 18, 2014 12:38 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
He certainly surrounded himself with felons, voted with felons, sided with felons, and gave felons hefty goodbye severance packages....seems like felonious activity to me. and his sins of omission are plenty, as well. Guess he can't argue the empty seat photo--- surprised he didn't try to photoshop himself into it as he loves to rewrite history. Sounds as though he is on the run, however, if the building industry is funding the anti-McCann flyers.— October 17, 2014 10:16 a.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
I agree that McCann is likely deluded and actually now believes all the fantasy material he spews. I also believe that he thinks he is ENTITLED to whatever public office he decides to run for, just because he is his wonderful self; and once there, is ENTITLED to its largess. I think he has an unfortunate, and unfounded, perception of reality and his present circumstances, and believes he has been wronged. Is that a psychopath or sociopath? They all are chronic liars. He behaves as though others are trying to take his entitlements away from him, and as we have seen in egregious behavior on the dais, will pursue those he believes have wronged him. I feel sorry for his family.— October 16, 2014 5:09 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
Thanks anniej --- as the saying goes, "The TRUTH will set you free." Can be used in many contexts, but especially appropriate when it refers to our community being set free of John McCann and his lying, self-serving time while he was supposed to be serving US! Another info item: As a public official, McCann is a public figure and as such, he has a much more difficult legal road ahead of him if he accuses anyone of libel (printed information about him that he claims to be untrue and therefore defamatory) because the benchmarks are higher for them than for ordinary folks.— October 16, 2014 2:37 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
The truth is the absolute defense to any accusation of libel. Looks like the people have the truth on their side. The people score big, McCann a big zip.— October 16, 2014 12:23 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
A judge in Los Angeles just sentenced former LA city council member Alarcon to 120 days in the pokey after being convicted of lying about his residence when he ran for that office. Let's keep an eye on Grossman and his domicile. The LA judge also ruled that Alarcon is prohibited from holding any office in the future, a ruling from which our own Judge Espana might take a lesson. Here's part of the story in today's LA TIMES: " Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School who studies election laws, said she thinks Lomeli's decision to give jail time "sends a message that we're serious about these kinds of convictions." She said she thinks Alarcon's sentence will have an effect on reducing residency law crimes in the Los Angeles region, and that only "people that possess an enormous amount of hubris" will still try to lie about where they live to run for office. Politicians began trying to find ways around residency laws after term limits were imposed on state and local officials, Sonenshein said. That meant someone hoping to go from one elected office to another might be required to move, so they started looking for easier alternatives, he said. But now, "anybody who takes shortcuts … is going to find themselves on the wrong side of things," he said. "— October 15, 2014 4:19 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?
theyknowmeascoach --- and McC is likely breaking the law if he has political material read or broadcast on public equipment! What an idiot... Arlie Ricasa used the public's equipment (email and such) for political purposes, in violation of the SWC district policies, and that is the likely reason she was demoted. Perhaps McCann's auto accident with brain injury took a greater 'toll' (pun intended) than we suspected, although we have long suspected that his IQ is in the tank. His need for self-puffery is still intact, however.— October 15, 2014 11:17 a.m.
