Inn like Flynn on Sunset Cliffs
Many of these community groups work well together, as the same members of one may be the members of another. So, The Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association (used to be the OB Merchants' Association) writes a letter of support. They and their members also get support from the applicant, who is also a member of the group. Then the same people (some of them), sit on the planning board. This is community politics. The planning boards are chartered by the city's Development Services department. It all works together.— October 14, 2017 1:24 p.m.
Mission Beach's last big chunk
Coastal Commissioners often vote with the local Commission Representative on issues they do not perceive as statewide policy issues. In this case, Chula Vista's interest in Mission Beach is minimal, and the Mission Beach locals certainly don't vote in City Council elections. It all came together for a developer, once again. How many, how many? How many three story condos can you fit under a 30 foot height limit?— October 14, 2017 8:16 a.m.
Sunset Cliffs at Voltaire, you dirty thing
I have wondered what resources are available for ordinary people who aren't homeless? What to do about that suspicious yellow puddle in front of your house? And over there, was it a dog or a person? These things are happening to all of us. It isn't the homeless community, it's the San Diego community. No statistics were released on who got Hep A who WAS NOT homeless, and got it anyhow. Any advice appreciated. Thank you for this article who addresses this side of the issue.— October 10, 2017 4:07 p.m.
Cheetahs scandal: the novelization
Do not forget that this was the scandal that set the stage for Kevin Faulconer's rise in local politics.— September 19, 2017 8:34 a.m.
Cheetahs scandal: the novelization
Zucchet was convicted, but his was over-turned on appeal. And remember the greater tragedy - Charles Lewis died during all this.— September 15, 2017 7:27 p.m.
Cheetahs scandal: the novelization
The tragedy of that time with Democrats on the city council is still with us today. Michael Zucchet might have been mayor, and Charles Lewis might still be alive. Before becoming a councilman, Charles Lewis served as chief of staff for former Councilman George Stevens. Rev. Stevens used to roar up to the Morse High School pep rally in his little Mercedes sports car (driven by Charles Lewis), and leap onto the stage where he led the cheers. He would close by saying 'Sorry to leave - I have to go to Lincoln High School now." Lincoln was the arch-rival of Morse, and the crowd would roar with laughter. It was a different time. George Stevens served from 1991 through 2002. Those were different times. Skyline was a different place.— September 15, 2017 3:59 p.m.
Coronado driveway contested
Looking at the pictures, I don't see how the cars behind the house (which I assume is this McVaney property) actually get there. Isn't the next block water, instead of a street? But there are two cars there - there must be a way. I am assuming black roof is McVaney and red roof is the complaining neighbor.— September 8, 2017 7:41 p.m.
Sorry, Houston, writes SD Lifeguard union head
There's something about our new political world that makes people snarky, and to many of us, Ed Haris is NOT a "liberal loser" lifeguard, he is a hero; in our current twitter world, he saves people's lives.— August 29, 2017 12:25 p.m.
City to pay for public-records case fumble
Fortunately, this case had a lawyer who knew just how to word the request. For ordinary citizens, by the time you get it (and it doesn't turn out to be what you were expecting), months have gone by, and the information is all OBE. Will changes will be made by the city? I don't think so.— August 18, 2017 3:34 p.m.
Former Chipotle co-CEO to revamp La Jolla home
