We Live in Fear
The ancient Romans had a different scheme - tap to toilet, instead of toilet to tap. The last stop the water made on its way out of the house was through the latrine. I suppose that is not possible now.— July 28, 2010 3:14 p.m.
North Park vs South Park
Reply to #28: The Greater Golden Hill MAD, found to be unlawful in Superior Court, has been appealed by the City and will be heard by the Appeals COurt at a date still to be determined. The end of this year is the EARLIEST expected date. Because the judge did not specify the remedy, the city continues to tax and spend pending the appeal. As the finding is based on a California Supreme Court decision, it is likely that the current MAD will be declared illegal. However, it would take yet another lawsuit to get the city to pay back the money it has spent.— July 25, 2010 5:29 p.m.
The G Fund
San Diego basically doesn't believe in parking. Any time a developer can squeeze in another unit, well...there goes the parking space. The answer? Currently it is bicycles. Bicycles are being promoted as solving all these problems. Every community plan update has a bicycle component. There used to be walking before bicycles. What was once a sidewalk is now an Urban Park. So, when they met at the Century Park Plaza, where did they all park?— June 28, 2010 7:01 p.m.
IKEA by Bus
a2resource, you are perfectly right. It is FUN to cruise around, particularly if you have a convertible and the top works. I didn't even think of the drag racing. I stand corrected.— May 30, 2010 7:45 p.m.
IKEA by Bus
What's the point of wanting all these streets and freeways anyhow? There's no parking when you get where you're going--not at your condo, the restaurant, or any place else. Just ask Uptown Parking. Parking is a thing of the past.— May 29, 2010 4:24 p.m.
Hillcrest developers want their own little slice of suburban heaven
Has anybody ever tried to park in Hillcrest? Good luck. Maybe some of that money could buy a vacant lot and turn it into a parking lot. (Maybe parking companies don't like that idea?) None of these parking plans ever translate to parking spaces where you want to park. I see this as a flaw.— May 20, 2010 3:44 p.m.
Hazard Towers
Development is like a hula hoop - it takes developers, banks, and buyers to keep it going around. When you only have developers, banks, and the city, will it continue to spin? Seems like it will.— May 20, 2010 3:41 p.m.
A Drop in the Bucket
How often do the golf courses water nowadays? I forget. And is it Tuesday/Thursday if your address is odd numbered, or the other way around? We need a refresher watering course.— May 14, 2010 6:14 p.m.
Kick in the Pants
If the city wants to "raise the ceiling" for downtown re-development, where would they look? Where will they find new blight? Well, let's stand in the CCDC offices for a moment. Look to the WEST! Woops, it's all cruise ship terminals; we can't go there. Look to the SOUTH! Oh, no, that's shipbuilding. Too many issues. Look to the EAST! What are all those little bungalows? Why, they could be knocked down in a day! No problem. Might as well go NORTH, too. The little circle around Balboa Park will suit the CCDC just fine. Golden Hill, Uptown, and North Park, are the new downtown redevelopment. Park already in place (Balboa Park, the new community park equivalent). Problem solved. Unless you happen to live in one of the little bungalows, of course.— May 6, 2010 6:32 p.m.
Spread the Wealth
By moving what the money is being spent for away from the ballot projects, the city is opening itself up to yet another lawsuit. I understand that Mike Davis, the MacArthur Award winning writer on Urban topics, is a resident of Golden Hill. I wonder if he is following all this, and what he would think of it.— May 2, 2010 7:18 p.m.
