Not in My Backyard: City Council Agrees on Civic Center Concourse for Winter Shelter
The reason Golden Hall was selected as the shelter site for the homeless is that it matches nicely with the desire to declare the Community Councourse totally uninhabitable, and consequently justify the construction of our new City Hall. Still, it makes a nice location for the homeless. We can only hope they enjoy sitting through the city council meetings to stay in out of the cold during the day.— October 23, 2010 7:41 p.m.
City Council Considers Balboa Park Locales for Winter Shelter
Aren't the homeless there already anyhow? Does the city have to make it official? What's the difference? Maybe group tents are the difference. I only know what my eyes see.— October 22, 2010 1:01 p.m.
University City shocks Morse to extend surprising streak
A long time ago now, Morse was the football powerhouse. Coach Shacklett and his team were a legend, and his first rate coaching staff made it all happen. Where have they all gone? The era is past.— October 17, 2010 7:45 p.m.
Councilmember Marti Emerald Douses Political Firestorm over San Diego's Public Safety Budget Cuts
Yes, but are we required to pay them an EXTRA $5.4 Million? "The pay, said Mainar, is extra pay for firefighters that hold EMT certification, which all are required to hold." So everybody gets extra pay? I still don't get it.— October 15, 2010 8:18 p.m.
Councilmember Marti Emerald Douses Political Firestorm over San Diego's Public Safety Budget Cuts
Wait a minute. There's $5.4 MILLION separate fund for firefighters with EMT training. The fire department says that is extra pay for firefighters with EMT Training. How does that differ from a bonus for firefighters with EMT Training? I guess Extra Pay is OK, but a bonus isn't. I'll take either one. How many people are getting this extra pay? Just curious.— October 14, 2010 7:57 p.m.
Is Chula Vista's Future Blight Around the Corner?
Of course, they can just ignore the deficit, like San Diego.— October 6, 2010 6:11 p.m.
San Diego City Hall's OneSD Program at $37 Million and Counting
So, how does the city of San Diego know how much money it has spent, and how much it has on hand (you know, to write checks)? Where are all these numbers they are giving us, like for Prop D coming from?— October 2, 2010 4:34 p.m.
Prescription Med May Have Led to Police Shooting in Normal Heights
To Comment #1: District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis' office was the one who made the call on Carbamazepine, NOT the Reader.— September 27, 2010 5:30 p.m.
Philadelphia Finds DROP a Big Drain
Two salaries could provide income for two people. But with DROP, one person gets both. That is wrong. It isn't fair. It doesn't matter if it is cost neutral. We need jobs for more people. The scheme is set up by people who don't pay for it -- we pay for it. This is a guaranteed double income for five years, not likely to be found outside of government employment.— August 4, 2010 4:26 p.m.
Uptown Apartnership
The use of Grand Jury reports in other cities is to provide background for a lawsuit against the city. Another one, waiting to happen in San Diego with this response by city government to a documented problem.— July 28, 2010 3:18 p.m.
