Libraries are always cut first. This is because library users are literate, and generate huge (expected) outbursts of complaints. And nobody notices that the consultants are still in for $$ Millions. That's the way it goes.— February 18, 2011 2:51 p.m.
What Redevelopment REALLY Looks Like
The millions are real money. People pay for it with taxes, today and tomorrow. It's our money. We have just forgotten about it because we never really had it.— February 18, 2011 2:48 p.m.
All in Favor of Balboa Park Preservation...
Anyone who goes to the park can see the solution: Get to the plaza, right turn only. no cars to the left. Problem solved. Pedestrian only mall preserved. But too, bad that is just one free solution. Well, nobody wants that!— February 17, 2011 3:03 p.m.
Bishops Building Up? La Jolla Conversation Is Not Done
These height limit exceptions are popping up all over the place these days. It's only two feet, it's only four feet, it's only six feet, and so it goes and it's fine in San Diego. Not much, unless you happen to live in the shadow. But of course, the commissioner's live somewhere else.— February 12, 2011 7:39 a.m.
City Intends to Dump the Dump
Somehow, trash pickup is one thing in the city that works. You put the trash out, the trucks pick it up, away it goes, over and over and over. This means that the system is obviously the one thing we have to change RIGHT NOW!— February 5, 2011 9:21 a.m.
Suspension of Development Fees Considered in Chula Vista
And we ALL know, right, that the Assistant City Manager in Chula Vista, Gary Halbert, used to be the director of Development Services in San Diego, right? He brings extensive experience as to how to do business. Chula Vista may be the next San Diego Redevelopment District.— January 16, 2011 7:03 p.m.
Centre City Development Corporation Plans Public Outreach
The new Governor, Jerry Brown, has publicly stated he is considering getting rid of ALL of the redevelopment districts that get to keep the tax money for themselves, not just San Diego. No wonder the CCDC needs some outreach. With that much money involved, other people want it, not just the local schools and libraries and rec centers. So we will see what turns out to be more important - balancing the state budget, or finding more blighted areas.— January 7, 2011 8:23 p.m.
Michell Told She Can't Lobby City for a Year
The Downtown San Diego Partnership manages the PBID under contract with the City of San Diego, I believe, to the tune of several million dollars.— December 18, 2010 8:18 a.m.
Seal You Later, Says San Diego Planning Commission
Last time I went to see the seals there, they were all over at La Jolla Cove swimming. No doubt waiting for the city-approved Fourth of July fireworks.— December 14, 2010 9:17 a.m.
City Rakes Seed Money from Community Gardens
A community garden is heart-warming, just like Granny Flats. Where do the gardener's park? In your driveway, if you live next door. No parking spaces required. Oh, by the way, leave your hose out too. They need to water thoe tomatoes. Liability? Forget it. But a very romantic concept. It works great in Santa Monica.— December 10, 2010 10:12 a.m.
