UCSD Proposes To Spend $10.5 Million on Chancellor's Mansion
Why do people talk about ten MILLION dollars like it's not real money? Some of the money once belonged to you and me, in one form or another. There is never a project of any sort that doesn't claim there are no taxpayer dollars involved, and that is never true. But everybody is OK with spending to for a house for one person to live in ? Maybe two?— July 14, 2011 6:05 p.m.
Alchemy's New Street-Food Menu
Well, the pig on the spit does look a little surprised.— July 14, 2011 8:48 a.m.
North Park Maintenance Assessment Fails
The city usually gives itself the largest vote in forming a Maintenance Assessment District. This is as close to a sure thing as you can get. In Golden Hill, Balboa Park property got to vote, also the other city properties. The city held the single largest weighted vote, followed by one large property owner/political contributor. The weighted vote is strange. One person can vote multiple times, one property can outweigh 2000 individuals, and foreign nationals can vote. Out of state owners can vote. The weighted vote is not what we learned voting is for Americans, and was challenged in California by Ford Greene as unconstitutional. The appeals court sided with him, but the State Supreme Court overturned it. His position was not upheld.— July 12, 2011 6:28 p.m.
Windy Road Ahead for San Diego County Residents
Don't worry - the City of San Diego could welcome the Wind Farm - a great use of Balboa Park, all that open space. Possible solution for the people of Boulevard.— July 7, 2011 3:01 p.m.
Residents of Bird Rock Really Don't Want The Real World
Stand up for those constituents, Sherri! You will find that the San Diego Film Commission has arranged life in San Diego for EVERYBODY to be subject to supporting TV and movie productions, not just Bird Rock. Wait until they park the catering truck right outside your front door. If they finish late, they have spotlights for that. But it's all part of making San Diego America's finest city. Bird Rock should be proud to be doing their part.— June 22, 2011 6:02 p.m.
Wave of Support for Belmont Park
"residents of Mission Beach fear that the park will once again be a stomping ground for transients and addicts." This doesn't indicate that Belmont Park is in the same category as the Bahia, Hyatt and Catamaran. Oh, yes, the Inn at Torey Pines also. Run-down properties make prime real-estate sale targets.— June 16, 2011 7:52 a.m.
No Beach Parking Fees
Although I support free beach parking, the number of people who live in their campers and cars at the beach is not small. What should the use of beach parking be? People at the beach, swimming in the water, eating at the local restaurants? Or is it a sort of local trailer camp? They all know the rules of how long and where and no overnight, so it works for them.— June 15, 2011 5:59 p.m.
Wave of Support for Belmont Park
Probably the city has a developer who thinks it is time to start building condos again. I can't think of a likelier place. Low income housing credits, no parking for residents, of course. Why would you want a roller coaster when you can build a three story building there?— June 15, 2011 3:05 p.m.
Complaint Lodged Against Clean and Safe Program Employee
The safety employee is not employed by the BID. He has an employer, usually a non-profit CDC-type organization which administers the BID. The county collects your money, which it gives to the city. The city then issues a contract to the non-profit to support the BID. The only problem is that what is supposed to be actually accomplished is lost in the process. What is the safety employee supposed to do? Well, not so easy to find out. He is probably low-paid. The administators of the contract don't have all that much left after they pay themselves after all.— May 20, 2011 2:43 p.m.
City Well is Running Dry
You mean the employees don't have bathrooms? The water from bathroom faucets is actually drinkable. It has been done. You turn the faucet on, put the cup under, and voila!— May 16, 2011 6:16 p.m.
