Supreme Court Knocks Out Redevelopment Agencies
Taxpayer-created jobs mean "I pay taxes to pay somebody else to work." But if I didn't pay those particular taxes, and had the money to spend, that would also create jobs. The government should provide services, like streets, but I don't particularly care to personally provide facilities for Comi-Con to create jobs. So I lack enthusiasm for the politicans' job creation reason for spending my tax money.— January 2, 2012 7:49 p.m.
Alvarez Stands Alone at City Hall in Support of Refocusing Redevelopment
Councilmember Alvarez is a voice of reason in the blighted area occupied by other city council members - city council chambers. His common sense replaces rhetoric. A dangerous and difficult stance to take when your place of employment is downtwon.— December 29, 2011 10:09 p.m.
City Auditor Finds Pacific Beach Business Improvement District Failed to Comply With City Contract
Community groups (CDCs, by any other name) who do not meet the terms of their contract should be found by the city who administers and audits the contract. It seems that these audits must originate with the taxpayers. Something is wrong with this process!— December 19, 2011 11:44 p.m.
Watch Your Step in City Heights
So, nobody has the responsibility to keep sidewalks reasonable for pedestrians? Is that why so many sidewalk cafes have spring up all over the place? They must have the same governing laws as dog poop. Neither the city nor the property owner is responsibile once the deed is done?— December 19, 2011 7:43 a.m.
Watch Your Step in City Heights
Some responsibilities for sidewalks fall back to adjacent property owners, not the city. Others perhaps not. So, who IS responsible for maintaining a sidewalk in a safe and usable condition? What does the law say?— December 18, 2011 10:46 p.m.
Layoffs at Voice of San Diego
The VOSD laid off the ones that write articles for the Internet Version. Days will go by with no new content. How odd. As the Internet news was supposed to replace the paper versions, I suppose Twitter has replaced the Internet Version. Too many words and you're out!— December 10, 2011 11:14 a.m.
Planning Commission Rejects Interim Height Ordinance
Development Services Code Monitoring Team? Who IS that? Does anybody know? That could be very interesting. Perhaps the Union Tribune suggested it for the good of the country, or whatever.— December 9, 2011 9:18 a.m.
Union-Tribune Buyer Hires City Hall Lobbyist
Paul Robinson is doing Code Compliance? Is that his picture?— November 30, 2011 6:37 a.m.
Manchester paid more than $110 million for San Diego Union-Tribune
Nobody said he paid $110 MILLION CASH. People with that kind of money structure things. They put in conditions. They put in contingencies. Nobody knows. Sometimes not even the people who do the deals in the first place (not the case here, I need to add).— November 26, 2011 7:45 p.m.
Does Doug Manchester's Spousal Split-Up Provide Clues to Intentions for the Union-Tribune?
Either legal separation or divorce, title in the UT is not likely to be taken as community property. Some corporations may wind up with no assets. Who will get what? Keep watching, Dorian.— November 24, 2011 7:45 p.m.
